Nicemakers x The Brecon

Swiss Mid-Century Iconic Hotel Gets a Timeless Refresh by Amsterdam’s Design Studio

Located high in the Swiss Alps, Hotel The Brecon in Adelboden combines history, design, and breathtaking alpine views. When it comes to transforming a heritage space, few do it with the finesse and flair of Dax and Joyce Roll, the duo behind NICEMAKERS. Their recent renovation of this historic hotel is a stunning tribute to mid-century design wrapped in understated luxury.

Once known as Waldhaus and initially built in 1914, this iconic hotel was a glamorous hotspot throughout the 1950s, ‘60s, and ‘70s. Now, after an elegant reimagining by NICEMAKERS, The Brecon has become a chic sanctuary that honors its storied past while adapting to the modern traveler. The 18 rooms and four suites mix contemporary style with vintage charm, creating a timeless and refreshingly new space that feels more like home than a hotel.

When Dax and Joyce set their sights on The Brecon, they knew they had to honor its rich mid-century legacy. The earthy tones—warm browns, soft greens, and sophisticated greys—wrap around the rooms like a cozy blanket. Add natural textures like wool, linen, and cotton, and you get a vibe that’s equal parts comfort and class. The mix of contemporary and vintage furniture gives the space an eclectic yet cohesive feel. Art from Amsterdam’s Bisou Gallery adds a dash of personality, while carefully selected objects from across Europe inject a sense of character and history into each room.

The design doesn’t stop at the interiors. Each room has beautiful views of the Adelboden Massif, bringing the grandeur of the mountains right inside. It’s a natural extension of the hotel’s atmosphere: luxurious but not in a stuffy way, just quietly stunning.
