Materica, a company specializing in wire metallization for surfaces, is showcasing its signature Superfici Venice Collection through ten exclusive designer interpretations. This collection of boiserie features designs by Draw, Matteo Cibic, Serena Confalonieri, StorageMilano, and Antonio Pio Saracino, all under the artistic direction of Tiziano Guardini and Luigi Ciuffreda, who have also contributed their own creations.
Combining creative methods to create unexpected textures and effects
Each designer brings a unique perspective, working closely with Materica’s expert craftsmanship to experiment with different techniques and aesthetics. The Venetian company’s boiseries result from a mix of creative methods, including high-speed fusion and micronization of pure metals such as brass, bronze, copper, alpaca, aluminum, and zinc. These metals are then treated with oxidation, laser etching, resin coatings, and natural pigments, creating unexpected textures and visual effects.
Modular design for indoor and outdoor spaces
The panels’ modular design allows them to expand both vertically and horizontally, making them adaptable to different spaces. Their versatility comes from various panel sizes and a cross-bearing structure that ensures smooth installation.
These durable metalized finishes can also be applied outdoors. Specially engineered substrates can be used on request, making designing custom panels for terraces, patios, and open-air environments possible.
The collection
LEVANTINA by Tiziano Guardini and Luigi Ciuffreda with Tessitura Luigi Bevilacqua
Levantina bridges East and West through Venetian silk velvets. Designers Tiziano Guardini and Luigi Ciuffreda collaborate with Tessitura Luigi Bevilacqua to craft a dynamic, architectural masterpiece. Juxtaposing natural and metalized fabrics creates striking contrasts of opacity and sheen. Levantina transforms centuries of tradition into contemporary luxury. The boiserie features Velluto Senatori in Bianco Gardenia and Rosso Ibisco. Its arabesque patterns recall 17th-century Venetian senatorial togas seen in Tiepolo and Tintoretto’s paintings. Metalized fabric modules come in zinc, brass, copper, and pewter with a polished finish.
PATH by StorageMilano
Path boiserie blends precision and movement with intricate graphic patterns. StorageMilano’s design forms maze-like pathways, drawing the eye into a dynamic visual journey. Laser-cut modules with elegant curves and lines can be freely combined to create fluid geometric compositions. The metallic surface exudes vitality while maintaining a minimalist essence. Its decorative versatility adds a magnetic appeal. Each material is available in pewter, nickel silver, zinc, brass, and copper, and comes in polished or satin finishes, offering a refined palette for creative expression.
MEDINA by Serena Confalonieri
Serena Confalonieri’s Medina collection draws inspiration from Morocco’s ancient medinas. The boiseries feature hand-applied studs reminiscent of traditional souk doors and a unique approach to color. Confalonieri uses innovative technology from Materica to pigment metal, creating sophisticated color combinations that range from deep Blue, lagoon green, and Venetian red to glossy finishes in brass, rose gold, nickel silver, and pewter. Emphasizing modularity, each boiserie module is designed precisely, allowing endless decorative possibilities. Reflecting Morocco’s cultural crossroads, the studded doors symbolize transition and passage.
SIPARIO by Matteo Cibic
Matteo Cibic’s Sipario is a grand metallic curtain that transforms walls into theatrical elements through layered optical illusions. The trompe-l’oeil effect mimics fabric-like drapes, creating a three-dimensional sensation. Drawing from ancient bas-reliefs and Renaissance art, Cibic’s eclectic pop aesthetic reveals and conceals, sparking imagination. Each drape seems to come to life, evoking fabric caught in a breeze or drawn aside by unseen performers. This boiserie system showcases metals like zinc, brass, rose gold, nickel silver, and pewter in polished or matte finishes, with burnished pleats adding dramatic flair.
BELLE NUIT by Tiziano Guardini and Luigi Ciuffreda
Inspired by Jacques Offenbach’s Belle Nuit, Tiziano Guardini and Luigi Ciuffreda’s boiserie captures the tranquility of a Venetian night. Its metallic surface mimics the gentle flow of music and the soft lapping of a gondola’s oar. The surface creates a three-dimensional illusion, blending hues that evoke reflections on a still lagoon. Available in two artisan-crafted versions, laser-etched zinc is pigmented in blu profondo or verde laguna, reflecting the aquatic, musical essence of the scene.
MAGIC MIRROR by Draw
Draw’s Magic Mirror reimagines boiserie as contemporary art, alternating voids and solids to evoke sculptures by Anish Kapoor and Enrico Castellani. The reflective metallic surface forms a circle, with shifting concave and convex geometries creating optical illusions. The concave center can be crafted from a different material to enhance the perspective effects, available in polished zinc, brass, rose gold, alpaca, and pewter.
PRISMA by StorageMilano
StorageMilano reimagines boiserie with Prisma, a wall-paneling system featuring elegant prismatic columns. Each three-dimensional module creates a reflective masterpiece, capturing light in a dynamic interplay of shadow and illumination. It is versatile and architecturally refined and fits into contemporary and classic interiors. The modules offer matte and glossy surfaces, allowing for creative combinations in brass, zinc, copper, pewter, and nickel silver, finished in single or mixed metallizations.
CAIGO by Tiziano Guardini and Luigi Ciuffreda
Caigo evokes the mysterious fog of Venice, where contours soften, and the city feels dreamlike. This boiserie captures that ethereal quality with delicate laser detailing and subtly contrasting polished and matte surfaces. Available in polished/matte brass, zinc, copper, pewter, and alpaca, Caigo can be further customized with a black overlay for added nuance.
STACK by Antonio Pio Saracino
Stack embodies accumulation and layering, with powerful forms dynamically emerging from metallic surfaces. Inspired by Picasso’s Cubism, it deconstructs and reconfigures into surprising results. Crafted with elegant plasticity and opulent materials, Stack transforms spaces with a daring, evolving three-dimensional effect. It is available in polished zinc, brass, rose gold, alpaca, and pewter, with optional burnished accents for added depth.
LAGUNARE by Guardini Ciuffedra Studio
Lagunare features a three-dimensional metal surface inspired by the sensuality of Venice’s Lagoon waters, combining marine elements with modern lines. The mirrored surface amplifies light, creating a perpetual movement that evokes the enchanting flow of waves. Its tactile, fluid forms invite contemplation, reflecting the mysteries of Venice. Available in four metallic modular panels, Lagunare offers endless compositional possibilities, capturing the unique atmosphere and beauty of the city.
