V8 apartment in St. Petersburg is a family residence conceived by the DA BUREAU team of architects and designers. Designed for a couple and their three children, the home was planned around a cherished grand piano that had been part of the family heirloom for more than a decade, making it a central feature of the living room.
Private and public zones
Considering that the house had to be used for numerous functions, it was divided into two parts: one for public areas and the other for more private zones. The first zone includes an open kitchen/living room, where the valuable family inheritance takes the spotlight both visually and emotionally. A bay window located in the common space allowed for the creation of a small workspace that is separated from the rest of the kitchen-living room area with a curtain.
A multifunctional wooden block lies in the centre of the new layout, which serves as a separator between the wardrobe, guest bathroom, and a working part of the kitchen. This technique of using a wooden block as the core piece has helped the DA BUREU designers to calibrate the internal pathways. And while the generous public area for family leisure activities hosts a dining room, a living room equipped with a sofa, and of course the piano, the second part hosts private bedrooms and a bathroom.
The style of Saint Petersburg
The overall interior of the V8 apartment balances modern eclecticism and the overall atmosphere of the city. Warm wood is juxtaposed with stainless steel in the kitchen while clean lines contrast with artworks from several epochs. Both the intellectual spirit of St Petersburg and the family’s personal story are reflected in the design, while the high functionality of the space supports everyday life and moments spent together as a family.

The studio designed a variety of public and private spaces, including retail, residences, hotels, restaurants, office spaces, complexes and individual projects. DA BUREAU’s creative and functional approach to design brought the company over 200 international awards in architecture, lighting and, of course, interior design. V8 Residence is a winning design of the BLT Built Design Awards competition. The design topped the competition in the Interior Design – Apartment category.
The design of the V8 apartment, centred on a grand piano in the living room, showcases modern eclectic design, while at the same time supporting the everyday needs of a family.
