Luxury in a Box: the NKN-18’s Fresh Take on Hospitality

When one thinks about hospitality, what comes to mind are hotels in the capitals of the world, sunbathed resorts surrounded by turquoise waters, or even a nature-infused chalet on a white mountain. However, the world of hospitality is much more diverse: there’s also the growing sector of compact luxury accommodation, in which Nokken is undoubtedly in the spotlight.

Nokken’s latest creation, the NKN-18, is an outstanding piece of creativity and functionality. This 18 square meter micro hotel suite offers the Nokken hotel experience in a condensed, yet still luxurious, format.

More than a pretty wooden box

The NKN-18’s exterior is but a piece of robust engineering, designed to withstand both freezing and boiling climates. Featuring timber cladding in either black or natural-stained larch and complemented by solid surface paneling, plus with highly insulated walls, the interior will always remain cozy despite the outside temperature.

The use of floor-to-ceiling triple-glazed aluclad panels also adds to its thermal efficiency, while enhancing its aesthetic appeal. For ventilation, a concealed window hatch has been thoughtfully integrated, and there’s always the option of a parapet roof with green roofing or solar panels for those seeking the most sustainable solutions.

Functionality at its best

On the inside, the NKN-18 is pure Nordic style. This specific aesthetic creates both a modern and natural environment, something which will never go out of style – or will at least age like fine wine.

The bedroom blends functionality and comfort, boasting solid timber cladding, oak timber floors, and an electric underfloor heating system (perfect after a day of losing oneself in the cold outdoors). Storage space is also provided in this open-space layout, including a hanging space, drawers, and suitcase storage under a large desk. A headboard made out of soft textiles and reading lights complete the look: the result is a warm and comfortable ambiance.

The bathroom of the NKN-18 could easily be mistaken for one out of a high-end boutique hotel. Covered with floor-to-ceiling porcelain tiles, a wall-hung stone basin, and opal vanity wall lights, taking a shower feels both stylish and functional.

The kitchenette, with timber veneer units, a solid surface worktop, and a range of modern appliances, including an induction hob and mini fridge, seems to fit perfectly with the layout of the compact space.

To each their nature-infused own

With personalization mixed in the recipe, the NKN-18 has a wide range of customization options, both inside and out: hardware, lighting, fabric choices, and so on.

Nokken’s design philosophy is deeply rooted in nature. The founders, Nathan and James, have a background in hospitality architecture and design and always strive to create products that allow people to immerse themselves in the great outdoors. The NKN-18 is their way to give people the opportunity to fully experience seasons and weather, much like camping but with a modern and luxurious twist.
