Meet Atelier DAMA, a French design studio renowned for exploring the numerous possibilities of hemp fibre through its passion for lighting design. Both trained at the École Boulle, Paul in bronze mounting and Inès in upholstery, they have always strived to establish themselves within a new form of design and craftsmanship, one that is more responsible and forward-looking. Through their workshop, DAMA, the pair aims to spark a growing interest in hemp by giving it a rightful place within all types of interiors.
Although hemp has been a plant widely used since ancient times, it has been largely neglected in the last several decades, only now starting to regain ground within the framework of a more ecological vision for societal development. Its long-term possibilities are hard to miss, especially since its very production has considerable benefits.
In this culture, sustainability and economy are hardly separate. Cultivation requires neither irrigation nor chemical inputs, and its ecosystem fosters employment and the creation of short supply chains across many fields, as well as the growth of associations and cooperatives.

Throughout the years, the designers have met some of those most passionate and committed to the revival of French hemp. These connections have allowed them to understand better its vast potential and the challenges it represents for the future. Through these exchanges, Inès and Paul have also witnessed the growth of a desire to promote, alongside them, a positive and inspiring narrative about this plant through design and exceptional creations.

The result of this passion is a collection of hemp lamps, crafted from a 100% natural biocomposite developed in-house. Complementing the natural material is steel, an infinitely recyclable metal that the designers patinate and oxidise themselves through natural processes. The pieces created are both aesthetic and functional, but they also carry a vision, a story, and a commitment.
