Created by Ka Wai Yuen, Terry, ‘Hortus‘ goes beyond just lighting up spaces; it becomes a canvas for shared activities, injecting life into relationships facing natural shifts in intimacy.
As couples build homes and families, this lampshade steps in to add a creative spark. Recent research suggests that after three years, relationships might need a boost. ‘Hortus‘ is a DIY design set that encourages users to dive into a collaborative creative process, rekindling shared experiences.
What makes it special is its wooden structure, carefully crafted without glue. This unique feature invites users to weave rattan-shaped fabric onto the frame, turning the lampshade into a personalized masterpiece. The kit includes flower and bird-shaped magnets and cards, providing a tangible way for users to add sentiments and memories.
The heart of ‘Hortus’ lies in continuously adding memories and emotions to the lampshade. It goes beyond its initial purpose, evolving into a ‘Home Garden.’ Users not only light up their living spaces but also cultivate and preserve the intimate bond between family members.
Ka Wai Yuen, Terry, the mind behind the design is a graduate of Kingston University London with a major in product and furniture design MA. As ‘Hortus’ graces homes, it transforms into a ‘Home Garden,’ a vibrant celebration of shared experiences and the rejuvenation of intimate bonds.
