Brintons, the globally renowned heritage carpet brand, has unveiled its first-ever commercial carpet collection in partnership with the prestigious Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), London.
The Design Discoveries Collection celebrates art, craftsmanship, and the enduring charm of timeless design. Drawing inspiration from the V&A’s world-renowned archives, the collection features six striking designs inspired by the works of French artist Emile-Allain Séguy, renowned for his vibrant pochoir illustrations from the early 20th century.
A fusion of heritage, art, and design
This unique collaboration between Brintons and the V&A takes designers on a journey through the museum’s extensive archives. Séguy’s geometric interpretations of butterflies and beetles, celebrated for their intricate patterns and bold colors, form the collection’s heart. Each design has been reimagined to blend Séguy’s natural motifs with a contemporary twist, ensuring relevance for modern interiors while honoring the legacy of Art Deco aesthetics.
The collection’s six designs are part of a broader range of 32 wool-rich rugs inspired by artifacts spanning centuries, from Sidney Mawson’s textile creations to tapa cloth patterns. Each piece reflects the enduring appeal of designs cherished through changing tastes and trends.
Customization for commercial spaces
Brintons’ Design Studio Online (DSO) platform offers unparalleled flexibility, allowing commercial clients to personalize the collection. Customers can choose designs as-is, recolor them, or collaborate with Brintons’ expert design team to create bespoke solutions tailored to specific project needs.
The collection was developed by Brintons’ international design team, incorporating insights from regions including the USA, Australia, Pacific, and Europe. The resulting color palette harmoniously complements the bold, abstracted patterns while ensuring durability for high-traffic areas.
Jodie Hatton, Design Manager at Brintons, shares her excitement:
“We are thrilled to bring Séguy’s remarkable patterns to life in this collection. The large-scale motifs are modernized to suit diverse spaces, yet they remain deeply rooted in their artistic origins.”
Amelia Calver, V&A Brand Licensing Manager, adds:
“This collaboration embodies the V&A’s mission to inspire design through our rich heritage. Brintons has beautifully reimagined Séguy’s work, creating carpets that feel both timeless and contemporary.”
The Design Discoveries Collection is available for commercial clients from November 2024.
