Renovating and remodeling the Olvios Residence was a journey to create an aesthetically pleasing, practical, and sustainable space. With the technical team’s expertise, the owners enhanced the residence’s appeal while improving its overall desirability and functionality.

DEDE’s approach was to provide customized solutions tailored to the client’s needs. Their team focused on a detailed study of the space, utilizing high-quality design work that aligned with the owners’ professional and financial goals. They transformed complex design ideas into clear, simple outcomes by selecting premium materials and paying close attention to every detail.

Located on the third floor of a late 1980s building in Glyfada, Greece, the Olvios Residence presented the unique challenge of maintaining its original character while transitioning it into a modern, airy, and functional space. The design team focused on energy efficiency and sustainable materials, ensuring the transformation would enhance the living experience and promote environmental responsibility.

A key feature of the redesign was the kitchen, which was transformed from a traditional, enclosed service area into an open, interactive space for socializing. Rather than being isolated, the kitchen became part of the living area, with a large wall opening that connected the two spaces. The central bar piece was a functional yet elegant design element that encouraged social interaction, bringing a sense of continuity and openness to the entire home.

The open floor plan, designed for multiple purposes, helped reduce the need for extra living space, ultimately lowering the residents’ carbon footprint. This approach showcased how sustainability could be achieved without compromising comfort or style.

Sustainability was a key driver in every aspect of the project. The kitchen and bathroom furniture were made from locally sourced, recyclable materials with low embodied energy and VOC emissions. Natural light and proper ventilation were integrated throughout the space, improving indoor air quality and promoting the well-being of the occupants.

The team installed high-quality external wall insulation with zero ozone depletion potential, a thermal break, and an air-tight aluminum profile system for energy efficiency. A solar water heater, a smart thermostat that adapts to household preferences, and energy-efficient lighting and appliances were added. These solutions significantly reduced energy consumption, lowering heating and cooling costs while supporting a greener future.

DEDE’s commitment to creating comfortable, healthy, and environmentally conscious spaces shines through in this project, making it a model for future housing developments.
