ATRIUM-designed garage for private collection aims to reshape the way we think about space. The volume located in Moscow simultaneously functions as a fitness area, a gallery space, and a venue for business meetings. Executed in a single fluid form, the garage responds to its natural surroundings.

Designed by ATRIUM
A large 200-square-meter structure is an addition to a private estate, also designed by ATRIUM several decades ago. The architectural practice, founded by Anton Nadtochiy and Vera Butko, has made a name for itself by working on the intersection of technology, ecology, and social function. The garage follows the architectural lineage of the previously constructed manor and guest house, but also introduces contemporary spatial design and materials.

Environmentally conscious design
ATRIUM’s approach included minimal site disruption as designers tried to preserve every possible tree. This environmentally conscious approach works well in the ecologically relevant areas, such as the forest reserve that surrounds the garage. The compact design is further amplified with a tree-preserving layout that features an underground expansion. ATRIUM’s sculptural garage has proven that architecture can successfully coexist with mature woodland.

Exhibition space for vehicles on the ground floor
The design is defined by a Möbius-inspired ribbon that circles the site. The continuous structure is responsible for the organisation of the garage. The gallery for the automobile collection is located throughout the ground floor. Directly accessible through the driveway, the garage’s street level serves as a radiant exhibition venue for vehicles. Additionally, it frames the entrance and rear terraces.

Outdoor and indoor workout areas
The ribbon’s diagonal elevation guides the visitors through an outdoor workout zone situated on the rooftop. This area is reserved for exercises. In winter and bad weather days, the physical activity moves to the indoor gym nested below ground, alongside offices, both illuminated with natural light entering through discreet ground-level openings. The addition is further integrated with nature through a large glazed ultra-thin façade on the northern and southern sides. Inspired by the design of the automotive industry, the white Corian envelope mimics aerodynamic surfaces and precision engineering. In contrast, wood and copper accents in the interior introduce warmth and tactility.

The garage for private collection features a fluid design executed in layers. And while the ground floor is meant to showcase the client’s vast collection of vehicles, the outdoor area is set aside for exercise, with wellness and administrative facilities located below ground. The sculptural shape of the building ensures seamless and intuitive movement between the three functional and connected layers of the structure.
