The Moon Person Comes Alive With Anamorphic Magic at MTV VMAs 2025

The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards gave their most famous icon a whole new dimension. This year, the Moon Person moved, transformed, and even stepped out of the screen, thanks to a bold collaboration with LA-based creative studio Possible.

Possible reimagined the Moon Person with anamorphic digital content that made the figure feel alive, playful, and larger than life. Throughout the night, the Moon Person traveled through portals, struck heroic poses, or clung to the screen in moments of drama. At one point, it morphed into chrome in a nod to the VMA trophy; at another, beams of light swept from its helmet across the audience.

Eleven custom vignettes brought the Moon Person’s personality to life, shifting from ethereal to cheeky, severe to surreal. Instead of a static sculpture, the VMAs’ cultural icon became a performer in its own right, interacting with the room and evolving as the show unfolded.

Unlike curved LED billboards in Times Square, the VMA visuals relied on flat screens, demanding precise perspective tricks and engineered false frames. The result was a futuristic take on anamorphic design tied to the Moon Person’s pop culture legacy.

Possible worked closely with Production Designer Matt Steinbrenner and the team at Visual Noise Creative, alongside VMA Executive Producers Jesse Ignjatovic and Barb Bialkowski of Den of Thieves, to shape the experience over a six-week period. Their goal was to turn the Moon Person from a static symbol into an evolving character that surprised and delighted throughout the night.

The show aired live from UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, with Lady Gaga leading the nominations, standout performances by Post Malone, Doja Cat, Sabrina Carpenter, Ricky Martin, and Tate McRae, and special honors for Mariah Carey, Ricky Martin, and Busta Rhymes. LL Cool J hosted the night.
