In luxury hospitality, lighting is essential in shaping ambiance and guest experience. At the newly completed Swissôtel Resort & Spa – Swissôtel Residences in İzmir, Turkey, the lighting design reaches a perfect combination of nature, elegance, and modernity, embodying the serene glow of the moon and the warmth of the Aegean sun.
Conceptualized as “Aura Lunae,” this lighting scheme, created by the team at Moon On Noon, has been honored with the prestigious LIT Lighting Design Award, recognizing its excellence in integrating illumination with architectural sophistication.
The art of light in luxury design
The “Aura Lunae” concept reflects the power of lighting to evoke tranquility and luxury. By artfully intertwining nature’s essence with contemporary elegance, the design ensures a visually captivating experience for guests. Carefully planned lighting solutions accentuate the resort’s architectural features while maintaining a well-integrated connection with the surrounding landscape
Upon arrival, guests are greeted by custom X-shaped recessed lights with a 4000K color temperature precisely integrated into the composite ceiling. This minimalist approach eliminates visible fixtures, ensuring a sleek and polished entryway. The entrance landscape, in turn, is softly illuminated by reed-shaped bollards emitting a warm 2700K glow, integrating naturally with the surrounding environment and setting a serene tone.
The drama of light and shadow
At night, light and shadow bring the resort to life. Outdoor spotlights with a 610-lumen output and a 36° beam angle delicately highlight palm trees, adding a subtle drama to the environment. Flexible linear LEDs (IP67-rated) at 3000K temperature further enhance architectural details, ensuring the facade remains strikingly vibrant even after dusk.
Walkways lined with asymmetrical bollards, also at 2700K, create peaceful passageways for guests, creating a natural connection between architecture and the environment. This thoughtful design enhances the guest experience and champions sustainability, with the resort’s LED lighting consuming as little as 0.557 watts per square meter, a remarkable feat in energy efficiency.
The MON-344: A fusion of power and aesthetics
One of the standout elements in this award-winning project is the MON-344 spike-mounted lawn luminaire, a product by Moon On Noon. Designed for aesthetic appeal and durability, the MON-344 balances power and elegance in outdoor lighting applications. Crafted from high-pressure-resistant aluminum with a protective anti-corrosion cataphoresis coating, this luminaire withstands extreme weather conditions while maintaining its refined appearance.
With a 36° lens angle and availability in 2700K, 3000K, and 4000K color temperatures, the MON-344 offers flexible lighting solutions for diverse outdoor settings. Beyond aesthetics, its sustainability credentials stand out: the aluminum body is fully recyclable, and the luminaire’s advanced engineering ensures an extended lifespan, reducing material waste and energy consumption.
Moon On Noon’s commitment to sustainability is evident throughout their lighting solutions. The MON-344’s energy efficiency is particularly noteworthy, delivering an impressive 345 lumens at just 4.2W and 610 lumens at 6.9W. Thoughtfully designed to minimize environmental impact, this luminaire contributes to Swissôtel Resort & Spa’s broader sustainability goals, reducing its carbon footprint while offering an exceptional visual experience.
More than illumination
Moon on Noon operates under the philosophy that lighting is more than just illumination; it’s an emotional experience. Like the moon borrowing light from the sun yet casting its unique glow, their designs create atmospheres that evoke warmth and wonder.
