The Ice Tables Blur the Line Between Furniture and Sculptural Art

When art meets functionality, the result can be breathtaking. The Ice Tables collection, designed by Daniel Germani for Bernhardt Design, reflects this fusion, offering a series of hand-blown glass tables that blur the line between furniture and sculptural art. Awarded Gold in Eco/Green Design for Sustainable Products by the International Design Awards (IDA), the Ice Tables elevate occasional furniture to new heights, both aesthetically and sustainably.

The art of glass craftsmanship

Crafted entirely from 100% recycled glass, the Ice Tables embody sustainability and artistic integrity. The creation process begins with the hand-blown bases, expertly shaped by skilled artisans. The table tops, made from cast glass, are formed by pouring molten glass into molds, achieving seamless cohesion with the base. This meticulous process ensures that every table is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece, celebrating the imperfections and unique beauty inherent in hand-crafted glass.

“Working with glass is magical,” says Daniel Germani

“The heat of the ovens, the energy of the makers, and the dance of the team assisting during the process create pure bliss. It’s a perfectly imperfect process where the art of the maestro is represented in every unique piece.”

A trio of colors and sizes

The Ice Collection includes three table sizes and three distinct colors: cobalt blue, amber, and smoke gray. The smallest table, measuring 13” x 19”, features an oblong cantilevered top, while the round tables have 21.5” and 28” diameters. Each piece is designed to be versatile yet striking, offering functionality without compromising its sculptural presence. The vibrant color options ensure the tables can integrate into various interior styles, from minimalist and modern to eclectic.

A perfect partnership

The collaboration between Daniel Germani and Bernhardt Design, under the visionary leadership of President Jerry Helling, has proven to be a perfect match. Helling, who had long admired Germani’s innovative approach, was astounded by the Ice Tables’ concept. Helling shared:

“We’ve never worked in glass before, but I knew it was worth the learning curve to do something this special. It’s a beautiful product and one I would like to own personally – to me, that’s the sign of great design.”

For Germani, the collaboration was equally fulfilling.

“Working with Bernhardt Design is a dream come true. Being part of this esteemed group of designers fills me with joy and gratitude.”

Sustainability and style

In a world increasingly focused on sustainable practices, the Ice Tables’ use of recycled materials aligns perfectly with contemporary values. Beyond their environmental merits, the tables stand out as conversation starters and design focal points, embodying a unique blend of utility and artistry.

Introducing multiple collections

The debut of the Ice Tables coincided with Bernhardt Design’s latest collections at the International Contemporary Furnishings Fair (ICFF) and NeoCon. Alongside Germani’s creations, the brand introduced Community Textiles by Nana Boateng, a collection inspired by tailored menswear, and Friends, a modular sofa collection by Noé Duchaufour Lawrance and Luca Nichetto. Each collection showcases Bernhardt Design’s commitment to collaboration, innovation, and excellence in design.
