Take a Look Inside a Michelin-Star Space Built on Reuse and Natural Materials

Lazy Betty, a renowned restaurant in Midtown Atlanta, features earthy tones and natural materials. Refinished heart pine floors give the place character, while repurposing old furniture testifies to the sustainability-centered design, enhancing authenticity. The stone bar top is refurbished and adorned with lively plants and brass accents that make a strong first impression upon entering, while honouring the permanence and elegance of nature.

Collaborating with local artists

Moving on to the main dining area, the guests will be welcomed by warm terracotta walls and teal velvet banquettes. Christina Kwan, who collaborated with the venue in 2019, has contributed once again, creating custom light fixtures for the Michelin-starred restaurant. The artist also painted a large-scale abstract mural on the ceiling of a Chef’s Dining Room. Created in vibrant colours and remarkable flow, the mural powerfully reflects on the restaurant’s playful, yet stylish menu.

Repurposed bar doors connect the Chief’s Dining Room to the adjacent Semi-Private Dining Room. The restaurant continued its collaboration with local artists by reconnecting with Jenifer Thoem. An Atlanta-based artist, known for exploring the relationship between humans and the environment in her body of work, has returned with a custom set of her signature artworks – sculpted birds. The visitors can take a peek into the main dining room through a featured wine display. Large and chic, a display was made from repurposed steel and a glass window. The nature-inspired design celebrates relaxation and welfare.

Relocation and transformation

Founded in 2019 in Candler Park, Lazy Betty‘s tasting-menu restaurant originally featured an industrial look, with concrete floors and exposed brick walls embellished with custom artworks by Jenifer Thoem and Christina Kwan. The new look accompanies the restaurant’s relocation and expansion, which took place on March 16th, 2024. One of only a few Atlanta restaurants with a Michelin star, Lazy Betty is perfect for those looking for a range of experiences, spanning from a romantic or a family dinner to a casual cocktail at the bar.

Blue Lantern Studios

Contributing to people’s well-being is one of the primary mottos of Blue Lantern Studios’ design. The woman-owned company, located in Atlanta, uses light to transform spaces and enrich experiences. By employing nature-inspired symbols such as organic forms, greenery, and natural light, the company aims to nurture physical and psychological healing. For almost 10 years, the company has created beauty as the key element for healing, restoration, and inspiration.

Their other memorable designs include hotels such as The Wave Hotel Lobby and Suits (Lake Nona, Florida), and The Ritz-Carlton (The Cayman Islands, and Dallas, Texas), and restaurants such as Atlas, (Atlanta), and ANGELINE’S (Savanah). The welfare-based design, accompanied by artistic touches, has brought the restaurant a LIV Hospitality Design Award in the Architectural Design Restaurant – Fine Dining category.
