Nestled within the undulating dunes between Montauk and Amagansett, this residence serves as a year-round retreat for a New York family. Positioned to integrate with its surroundings, the home offers a tranquil oasis overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Designed by Studio Meyer Davis, this home not only looks like a luxury hotel but also provides functional spaces to host multiple people.
Meyer Davis is a multi-disciplinary design studio founded by Will Meyer and Gray Davis. The firm has established itself at the forefront of high-end commercial and residential design practices throughout the US and beyond, through its works on private residences, hotels, restaurants, and more. After two decades of work and passion, Meyer Davis has become a definitive fixture in the design world. Key brand clients include Four Seasons, Loews Hotels, Terra Group, and Extell Development.
The house that the studio designed, focused on entertainment. Therefore, there are a number of outdoor social areas and lounge spaces. Moreover, utilizing the ocean views, Meyer Davis used floor-to-ceiling windows to blur the lines between outdoors and in and connect with the home with its surrounding natural environment.
Drawing inspiration from the picturesque waterfront views and the subtle undertones of the sandy beach throughout different times of the year, the design of this home cultivates a natural ambiance that mixes both cool and warm palettes. Intentionally minimalistic in its design – both inside and out – the residence derives its form by playing with essential geometries. This can be seen at every scale, from the master plan of the home (a series of stacked boxes following the terrain of the site) to the floating central fireplace and a bright white bunk room with generously framed proportions.
The white bunk room is a guest bedroom that caters for up to eight adults. The room is modern and comfortable with full-sized beds and cozy lighting.
A true vacation home, the project also embraces a more playful and surprising side, featuring a one-of-a-kind ceramic pendant, unique artwork, and a fuchsia mirror that pays homage to the wildflower fields en route to Montauk. The resulting space is decidedly modern but also gentle and beautiful.
This home takes advantage of the worlds of luxury and its surroundings to create a space that makes a home feel like a seaside getaway.
This home is the winner of the LIV Hospitality Design Award in the Interior Design Residence category.
