Spanish House Maximizing Potential on a Modest Plot

DG Estudio was given a unique challenge recently: creating a house with a very extensive programme on a small plot of land. Located in the municipality of L’Horta Nord, very close to the city of Valencia, the plot is set next to one of the most important squares in the municipality, with large green areas and pine trees as the main protagonists.

As it is a small plot, Isabel Roger Sánchez and Daniel González López, the architects, chose to create a high-rise house where the most important spaces are located on the upper floors to take advantage of the fantastic views of both the garden and the church bell tower.

Four floors divide the house into functional and leisure areas:

  • The first two stories have the garage, bedrooms, and work areas.
  • On the third floor are the most important daytime spaces in the house, such as the kitchen, the dining room, and the living room, where a large window opens onto the pine tree-filled square.
  • On the fourth and last floor, more open spaces make up the leisure area of the house, as several terraces at different heights and a small pool make up the finishing touches of the house.

As the house is comprised of four heights, the most important element is the staircase, designed as a light object that accompanies us from the moment we enter the house and connects all spaces with one another.

The architects took great care of making sure that the house and residents would feel constantly connected with the town, filling the interior with large windows, terraces, interior patios, and double heights. These elements give rise to a home of great interior spatial quality where natural light transforms the spaces throughout the day and also help ground the residence within the city.

To complete the look, DG Estudio collaborated with Arkoslight to achieve the perfect lighting design for the house, decorating the result with the help of Muebles Lluesma.
