The Hotel Hartness is the newest premier boutique hotel in Greenville, a town in South Carolina, USA, where the Hartness family has been watering their roots for decades. The new hotel is located on the Hartness Living Development, a 400-acre estate of rolling meadows, lakes, trails, and pecan groves. Both the designers and the owners agreed on one thing: the best way to enjoy such a rich landscape is by comfortably resting at the end of the day surrounded by great design.
The studio responsible for designing the hotel is the Sims Patrick Studio, a woman-owned design studio with a history spanning more than 90 years. Lead designers Jenny Rutledge and Melissa Wylie wanted a design that reflected the idyllic nature surrounding the hotel, so they played with light, textures, wood, and foliage to create a depth only found within natural elements.
The hotel’s many spaces change throughout the day, imitating nature and how the sun influences it. When strolling around the town, guests can take in the beauty around them and, when returning to the privacy of their bedrooms, can enjoy a sort of lack of barriers. The comfort of being in nature can be found within the walls of the hotel.
The space was also envisioned to serve as a haven for the community, fostering true connections between guests and the town, not just with nature. The town remembers many moments where local charity, friendship, and a sense of community have the spotlight, so the design team wanted to share these memories with the guests.
The Hartness name and history, blended with past and modernity, can be found among the hotel’s 73 suites, a conference centre, a waterside restaurant, a spa, and even a ballroom, giving guests the sense of going back in time while also having all the comforts they are used to. Knowing all of this, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Hotel Hartness is one of South Carolina’s most sought-after hospitality destinations.
