Kurtain, designed by Jason Bird for Luxxbox, was declared the best in the pendant lighting category at the LIT Lighting Design Awards. You may ask yourselves what separates Kurtain from other lighting? Well, first, it focuses not only on providing exceptional lighting but also on improving the space’s acoustics. The sophisticated lighting fixture was 100% made from sustainable Camira Blazer wool. The acoustic material drastically reduces noise, creating a peaceful atmosphere that improves productivity and well-being, with an NRC of 0.70. Kurtain dominates the field of acoustic absorption.
Unparalleled sustainability and durability
Second, it’s the designer’s sustainable approach. As mentioned above, the Camira Blazer wool is a sustainable, responsibly farmed material. The wool is organic, compostable, and can absorb noise, thus fighting sound pollution. But that’s not the only eco-friendly feature of curtain design. The fixture also has an L70 lifetime rating of 50,000 hours, indicating that its LED panel is expected to last more than 5.5 years. Due to its ecological and durable design, the lamp is EU Ecolabel certified, Indoor Advantage™ Gold certified, and GIGA rated. The product is also free from dangerous chemicals, including Prop 65 chemicals, a large group of man-made chemicals known as PFAS, and AB 2998 flame retardants. The material’s Environmental Product Declaration highlights its rapid renewability, green credentials, and use of non-metallic dyestuffs, making this award-winning fixture one of the few that boasts completely compostable shade.
Curtain-inspired flowy design
Last but not least, it’s the lamp’s elegant, flowing design that sets it apart. Inspired by the flowing curtains and drapes, the design follows soft, wavy folds. Available in three sizes and a whopping 77 premium wool colours, the curtain can be adjusted to every space. The fabric adds warmth and style to any venue, making it ideal for homes, offices, healthcare institutions, hospitality venues, and educational settings. The customers can use adjustable 9’/3m suspension cables to adjust the height of the pendant, which comes with a Black woven power cable. Other optional features include Casambi Bluetooth dimming, POE, and customizable illumination that aligns with the human circadian twenty-four-hour cycle.
Edge-lit LED panel and high CRI lights
The Kurtain is not just convenience and style – the lamps pack a high-performance, dimmable edge-lit LED panel with a technology that provides outstanding lighting with minimal glare. Kurtain boasts an outstanding photometric performance with a maximum brightness (aka lumen output) of 4997 lm. A high Colour Rendering Index (CRI) of 90+ ensures that the colours of a lit object are as vivid and vibrant as if illuminated by a natural light source.
