For decades, the PAX wardrobe has been a staple in IKEA’s storage lineup, known for its affordability and versatility. However, many customers found assembly to be a challenge, especially in small spaces. Responding to this feedback, IKEA has reimagined its iconic wardrobe with an innovative foldable frame that significantly simplifies and speeds up the assembly process. The result? A PAX that is more accessible, user-friendly, and adaptable to various living environments.

A storage classic, now with a modern twist

The new foldable frame is the culmination of years of development by IKEA’s product designers, engineers, and suppliers. Featuring a pre-glued, one-piece back and side panel that folds like a book, the redesigned PAX can now be assembled vertically, directly against the wall where it will stand. This breakthrough eliminates the need for extensive floor space, high ceilings, or heavy lifting, making the wardrobe a practical option for more homes.

Assembly time has also been cut in half, thanks to the wedge dowel joint system developed by IKEA engineers. With fewer fittings and a simplified process, the new PAX is easier to put together while maintaining the high quality that customers expect. Once assembled, the wardrobe must be secured to the wall, with detailed instructions included.

“At IKEA, we always strive to do better, and one of our biggest motivators is our customers’ feedback. We knew customers loved PAX as an affordable and versatile wardrobe solution. We also understood that product assembly could be challenging, so we wanted to bring our customers an innovative solution while maintaining the quality that PAX has been known and loved for. We are very happy with the result and hope our customers will be as well.”

Designed to last and move with you

Sustainability remains a key focus for IKEA, and the new PAX reflects this commitment. Designed for durability, it can be disassembled and reassembled multiple times which is ideal for those who move homes or want to pass it on for continued use. The foldable frame allows for easier transportation while reducing the risk of damage. With fewer individual parts, tracking and maintaining components becomes more manageable. Additionally, PAX can be refurbished, repaired, and eventually recycled when it reaches the end of its lifecycle. It also comes with a 10-year guarantee.

Beyond storage, PAX also contributes to a better sleeping environment. Research shows that clutter can negatively impact sleep quality, and the wardrobe’s modular system, combined with customizable interior organizers, helps maintain a tidy and tranquil bedroom. As part of its broader initiative to promote better sleep, IKEA continues to develop solutions that enhance relaxation and well-being.

The new PAX is currently available in select markets and will roll out globally in the coming months.
