Dual-shaded Lamps by IKEA Offer Italian Elegance at Affordable Prices

The latest duo of floor lamps from IKEA MOSSPLYM and TRÅDNATE was made in collaboration with Raffaella Mangiarotti, an Italian designer. Two sculptural statement pieces are crafted from solid oak, Italian Carrara marble, and steel, with brass embellishments and nickel details. Dual- shaded statement pieces combine an ambient lighting floor uplighter with more focused reading lamps.

TRÅDNATE

The tall and slender TRÅDNATE lamp is inspired by the designer’s ongoing exploration of the geometry of nature. Composed of two parallel structural supports, the lighting fixture is balanced by placing crowns in the opposite direction. Every parallel supporting structure carries one light source. And while the larger shade is fixed upward to illuminate the space, the smaller features a task light and a rotatable arm for adjustment to enhance users’ reading experience. Heavy base anchors the luminaire, while finishing brass details provide a touch of elegance.

The MOSSPLYM lamp is available in dark and light solid oak. Additionally, its materials include blow-moulded glass and a heavy base made of Italian Carrara marble. The slender stem expands from the base all the way up to the softly rounded crown shaped as a flower blossom. Another smaller adjustable shade for reading sits lower on the oak pole. Both light sources emit a soft glow through two-layer frosted glass.

Nordic-inspired design by Raffaella Mangiarotti

Both MOSSPLYM and TRÅDNATE lamps are rooted in two principles: the Scandinavian simplicity and the Nordic use of light to shape atmosphere. Raffaella Mangiarotti used contemporary design language to transfer these philosophies into a striking yet functional floor illuminaires.

“The new lamps combine an uplight and a reading light – a dual function that often results in two elements that feel artificially joined. It was important for me to bring something beautiful into a residential space, combining two functions rooted in Nordic design principles without compromising aesthetics.”

The two dual-shade lighting fixtures represent the second design Mangiarotti made for IKEA. Previously, she created BÄCKNATE, an orchid-inspired table and floor lamp made from folded paper. The collaboration was mutually beneficial as BÄCKNATE gained wide recognition, being nominated for Compasso d’Oro, Italy’s oldest and most prestigious design award. The partnership between the award-winning Italian designer and the Swedish company will continue, as the duo announced additional lighting pieces in the years to come. Before hitting the global market, the lamps will debut at the IKEA Milan Design Week 2026 exhibition. The event takes place from April 21 to 26, 2026, at Spazio Maiocchi.
