The Poty Armchair, crafted by Stdio Lucas Caramés, has been honoured with the Furniture Design of the Year award by the SIT Furniture Design Award. This accolade highlights its eclectic design and innovative technology. The Poty Armchair is a tribute to both past and present, seamlessly blending contemporary design with traditional elements.
Design, inspired by the exuberant Craft Culture of the Delta Parnaíba, brings a unique fusion between contemporary comfort and traditional elements. Built with a solid wooden structure, this armchair stands out for its generous upholstery that provides a comfortable seating experience. However, the real highlight is in the carnauba straw weave which elegantly wraps around the armchair, incorporating a distinctive craftsmanship of the region.
The carnauba straw weave not only adds an authentic aesthetic touch to the armchair but also rescues and celebrates the rich local artisanal tradition. Each detail of the plot is a testament to the artisanal skill passed down through generations, connecting the piece to the cultural fabric of the State’s community.
The contrast between the solidity of the wood and the softness of the upholstery, combined with the handcrafted weave, creates a piece of furniture that provides physical comfort and a visual and tactile experience that points to the region’s cultural roots.
The Studio Lucas Caramés Authorial Design is a Brazilian brand of furniture design and objects that exalts its roots, redefining Brazilian modernist furniture craft. Their main purpose is to make designs with meaningful stories behind them and to strengthen the collective through individual expression.
“We have our own pace and our own approach. When we start a new project, we don’t know exactly what will come of it, we develop every detail, fluidly and without compromise, until we reach the result, a mixture of our essence with the characteristics of our research.”
