Biophilic Design Gets Sculptural with The Corallite’s Lights and Furniture

The Corallite, by Sanjay Puri Architects, is a series of lights and furniture inspired by the organic forms and textures of the coral reef. This example of biophilic design was designed to fit into any type of interior aesthetic, as even with their unique forms and textures, the cream colour chosen by the designers helps tie the pieces to the items that surround them.

The lighting fixtures

As mentioned above, the collection consists of two types of products: light and furniture. The lighting fixtures themselves have diverse forms, but all have a sculptural quality to them. In addition to providing light in a single direction, the uplighters and suspended lights light up throughout, glowing just like many bioluminescent organisms. The entire surface emits light through its pores, emanating a soft glow that highlights the textural quality of the material – foam concrete (FEFS Board).

The furniture

Alongside the lighting fixtures, the designers presented their take on centre and side tables, giving them the same integrated light seen in the luminaires – just as seen before, diffused light permeates through the surface.

Sustainability

Corallite is made from 80% recycled material, with minimal use of water and electricity in its production. This means that this collection creates an almost zero carbon footprint, rendering it sustainable and extremely eco-friendly.
