Apple’s first foldable iPhone, iPhone Duo, features a 5.4-inch display when closed and a 7.6-inch inner display when opened. The thinnest iPhone ever is powered by the A20 Pro and features an advanced thermal management system with a custom vapour chamber and dual-battery framework for extended use.
Largest iPhone display to date
The innovative design of the iPhone Duo boasts the largest iPhone display yet. When closed, it fits easily in pockets, with a 5.4-inch outer Super Retina XDR display that provides 90% of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro, while the open option surpasses the iPhone 18 Pro Max by 50%. A premium nano-texture finish reduces glare and reflection. The display features ProMotion, Always On and 3000 nits of peak outdoor brightness. Touch ID is integrated into the side button, allowing easy access, and can be unlocked with Apple Watch.
iPhone Duo is made from grade 5 titanium, which has a mirror-polished finish and a 3D-printed hinge cover with a contrasting micro-blasted finish. The back is protected by Ceramic Shield, while Ceramic Shield 2 on the front provides improved scratch resistance, accompanied by splash-, water-, and dust-resistant qualities. The inner display is protected by a scratch-resistant coating and a polymer nanotexture cover layer. High-strength glass sits above and below the folding display panel, with custom adhesive that allows easy opening.
The 48MP Fusion Main camera
The Main camera can shoot photos at up to 48MP resolution with no shutter lag. The default 24MP makes amazing images at a shareable file size. The large sensor and improved stabilisation allow the phone to take photos in low light, while the computational image pipeline ensures sharp details. 2X Telphoto zoom enables detailed close-ups.
The 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera enables wider fields of view and macro photography, while the Centre Stage front camera automatically takes images and videos in any orientation. FaceTime camera hidden beneath the inner display enables communication in both closed and open modes while keeping the design sleek. Upgraded Photographic Styles provide more control over photos with new texture and grain controls.
New camera options
Duo brings entirely new options unavailable on any other iPhone. Smart Take uses AI models to analyse the scene and automatically captures photos when subjects pose. The high-resolution rear camera can be used for selfies, as the shot is previewed on the outer display with Duo Preview. Duo FaceTime can also be shared on the outer display, allowing people to join the conversation without crowding around one screen. Kid Cue with Peanuts animations on the outer display will keep the kids entertained during photo sessions.
The camera supports 4K120 fps recording in Dolby Vision on the 48MP Fusion Main camera, with slow motion effects, cinematic effects and Audio Mix for high-quality sound. Time-lapse supports 4K in Dolby Vision HDR, while iPhone Duo can be propped up without a tripod for longer videos.
iOS 27 software
iOS 27 is reimagined for iPhone Duo. The side of the phone hosts Lock Screen controls, the Dock on the Home Screen, and app navigation and controls. Two Home Screen pages with Today View (list of customizable widgets) appearing on both screens when the phone is open. The status bar in the screen corner shows Wi-Fi, battery and other important info. The redesigned Dynamic Island sits vertically along the outer and inner displays, expanding for Live Activities and alerts.
For the first time ever, Split View enables simultaneous use of two apps, or opening two windows of the same app and saving apps as pairs. Standby is activated on either the outer or inner display, turning the phone into a photo frame, a hub for widgets and much more. New Calendar and Weather faces are joined by an updated Photos face that displays Shared Albums.
Siri AI by Apple Intelligence
A new Siri AI powered by Apple Intelligence uses personal context to help users find what they need faster. Finding old conversations and starting new ones is easy with synced conversational history across products via iCloud. Apple Intelligence also improves an array of other apps, including Image Playground, Safari, and photo editing.
Battery and eSIM
Dual battery setup includes one high-energy battery on each side that works as one. The setup supports 32 hours of video playback on the inner and 44 hours on the outer display, as well as up to 24h or use when both displays are used. Fast charging brings the battery up to 50% in just 20 minutes, also supporting wireless charging with MagSafe or Qi2 charger.
eSIM-only design maximises battery capacity and is industry standard, supported by over 500 carriers around the world. N1 wireless networking chip supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread, while C2, Apple’s next-generation cellular modem system supports AI and mmWave in the US.
Acessories
iPhone Duo comes with the iPhone Duo Folio available in taupe and navy blue with an integrated kickstand. Sand or navy blue Duo Case wraps around both sides for full protection. MagSafe, Qi2 25W, and Qi-certified chargers are supported by both cases. The phone supports Apple’s plan to become carbon neutral by 2030 with 35% recycled materials and 60% renewable energy used across the supply chain.
Available in two colours (light star white and Night Sky), the iPhone Duo will go on sale on October 23, 2026, with preorders available online.
