Turf Expands Acoustic Design with Plate and Platter Cloud Panels

A global leader in acoustic solutions, Turf, has presented two ceiling cloud systems. The new Platter cloud system features an organic, curvy structure, while the updated Plate design is an enhancement of customer-driven solutions centred on polygonal shapes.

“After years of collaborating on custom projects and pushing the boundaries of our original Plate product, we’ve upgraded the collection and added Platter to help designers create visually and aurally appealing cloud solutions, much easier and faster than ever before.”

Platter cloud system

Platter reimagines acoustic solutions by allowing it to add dimensions and soft, organic forms. Coming in a variety of rounded organic shapes and depth, the Platter offers an aesthetic value with overlapping and interconnecting options. The ability to mix and match shapes allows for both acoustics and visual complexity. The customizable, clean, and creative visual language of Platter doesn’t require external stiffener hardware.

The matrix of indentations adds structural strength to the panels, while their flat vertical edge (ranging between 2”-6” depth options) adds volume. The dimensions of a folded Platter panel are one of the highest of Turf’s products and can range from 1.15-1.30, depending on spacing and depth. The depth allows designers to create visually exciting interior design without sacrificing the acoustics of the space.

Plate ceiling cloud offers enhanced engineering paired with seamless design. Turf’s outstanding material comprehension resulted in rigid panels without the need for external hardware. The technology comes in two types: Knife Edge and Chamfer Edge. Knife Edge allow for angled installs, up to 45º, which results in a dynamic “peak and valley” effect characterised by alternating, contrasting high and low points. The new engineering solutions are supported by the company’s parametric design process.

Plate comes in several standard shapes, including hexagons, triangles, rectangles and many other polygonal shapes. All these shapes can be adjusted to work with each other as a singular cloud. Plate’s sound-absorbing properties achieve noise reduction coefficient (NRC) of 1.05. The visual aesthetic of Plate ceiling cloud systems makes them a suitable choice for any commercial space.

Connectivity and customization

Apart from the standard shapes made with 9mm felt, 60% pre-consumer recycled PET felt, the panels can be made in any of the company’s Grains, Textures, and 9mm colours, including Red, Black, Topo Green, Royal Blue and Grasshopper, to name a few. The existing mechanical infrastructure supports every cloud system that can be installed through a cable-to-deck connection. Plate and Platter are both highly customizable.

Turf’s Acoustic Ceiling Cloud systems reduce echo and reverberation in open or high-ceilinged spaces. Made in two options: one geometrical and the other curvy and organic, the Plate and Platter offer numerous options for customisation, satisfying both aesthetic and acoustic needs of its users.
