Abstracted butterfly wings
Chang uses expressive visual language to convert nature into structure. By abstracting the amazing natural form, Chang purifies the elegant shape of the Morpho butterfly without copying it. The tiny holes in the backrest serve a dual purpose. They help cool the chair during long sittings while also mimicking the texture of butterfly wings. The holes give the chair a holographic texture, creating the illusion of iridescent scales that give the chair its characteristic shimmer.
The functional design initiates a conversation between the chair and the sitter by allowing light to pass through its pores, creating shadows and the illusion of uninterrupted movement. The ventilation allows for dual indoor and outdoor use, as the chair resonates with nature as much as with its user.
Flexible, light design
The chair celebrates the relationship between organic forms and industrial materials. Shape, efficiency, and ergonomics interweave in the lightweight sculptural piece. Made of aluminium, the chair weighs less than ordinary metal chairs, while remaining durable and corrosion-resistant.
