Why We Choose to Stay Human in the Way We Publish Design

To publish and manage a design magazine in the digital era means to choose between speed and substance, between volume and value, between automated processes and careful editorial work. At D5 MAG, we have never had to make such a choice. From the beginning, what we publish is a result of people, conversation, and collaboration.

D5 MAG is made by a real team of people working together. Editors, writers, partnership managers, and social media managers read submissions, answer questions from designers and studios, research projects, edit with purpose, and take the time to understand the thinking behind the work before it is published. This is a slower, more difficult, and very human process, and it is exactly why the stories we publish have context, depth, and meaning.

The magazine is part of the larger 3C Group, which was co-founded by Hossein Farmani and Astrid Hébert, both of whom have been committed to publishing, design, photography, awards, and the creative industry for a long time, providing a foundation for an editorial platform that prioritizes integrity over automation. This legacy continues to influence D5 MAG as an independent, human-driven design communication platform.

At a daily level, the magazine is influenced by an active editorial and communications team. Tina King, Deputy Editor, adds depth to the editorial content through her experience and connections in architecture, sustainability, and design thinking. Leonor Gomes, Senior Editor, adds to the clarity, consistency, and structure of our editorial content, keeping the platform on track. Milica Jović adds cultural understanding and journalistic expertise from the art and design world, adding context to the projects we cover. Hannah Grey adds a global perspective, connecting our editorial content with the world of visual communication; Helena Segon builds partnerships on trust and collaboration; and Alexandra Elova translates the editorial message into meaningful content on social platforms, so our stories reach the design community in a natural way.

As Editor in Chief, I began my career in publishing working with ELLE Croatia and ELLE Decoration, before expanding into marketing, communications, and international design, with projects and writing featured in titles such as Vogue. Across all these experiences, one belief has stayed constant and now guides everything we do at D5 MAG: good design deserves more than visibility; it deserves understanding.

We actively cover emerging technologies, including AI, because they are undeniably having a major impact on today’s design world, and we clearly credit AI-assisted visuals when they are part of a project. We are not against technology, but as content can be generated in seconds, we believe designers deserve time, attention, and interpretation, and that noteworthy stories come from editorial judgement, critical thinking, and genuine engagement with the people behind the work.

The same philosophy applies to how D5 MAG is managed. Every partnership and advertising collaboration directly supports the people behind the platform, the editors, writers, social media managers, and partnership leads who are dedicated to building an independent space where design is treated with respect. This is why working with and supporting D5 MAG means supporting human-led design media, at a time when that distinction is becoming increasingly important.
