STUDIO SHOO presents “From the Fridge,” a transformative installation at Dubai Design Week 2024. The installation is constructed from Polygood®, 100% recycled and recyclable plastic panels by The Good Plastic Company, provided and supplied by Danube Building Materials. This striking piece turns discarded refrigerator plastic into a visually captivating lounge area, combining bold colors and textures to highlight the potential of recycled materials. The installation’s seating also features Sport, a fabric by the renowned textile brand Kvadrat. It is the world’s first recycled polyester upholstery textile made from 100% ocean-bound plastic waste, adding another layer of sustainable design to the project.
“From the Fridge” reflects on consumer waste, sustainability, and environmental responsibility. By repurposing plastic from refrigerators, the installation transforms waste into a functional, beautiful space, demonstrating how recycling can combat environmental degradation. The vibrant Polygood® panels, produced by The Good Plastic Company, bring new life to waste materials. At the same time, the Kvadrat fabric adds comfort and style, further emphasizing the importance of resourcefulness in design.
Shushana Khachatrian, founder of STUDIO SHOO, comments on the installation:
“With ‘From the Fridge,’ we wanted to show how something as mundane as a discarded refrigerator can become a piece of art with a strong environmental message. It’s about reimagining what waste can become and inspiring people to think about the lifecycle of everyday products in a creative, positive way.”
The Good Plastic Company’s innovative recycled plastic panels bring this vision to life. William Chizhovsky, CEO of The Good Plastic Company, adds:
“I’m proud of this beautiful installation designed by STUDIO SHOO. Our collaboration on ‘From the Fridge’ highlights the transformative potential of recycled plastic and demonstrates how our Polygood® material can elevate creativity. This project is a testament to how repurposed materials can shape the future of conscious design, showing that beauty and responsibility can coexist.”
This installation invites visitors to engage in a dialogue about their role in reducing waste and promoting a more sustainable future. Through the regeneration of everyday materials, “From the Fridge” serves as a call to action, urging us to reconsider how we address global environmental challenges.
The installation was part of the d3 Dubai Design District from November 5 to 10 during Dubai Design Week 2024.
