Room & Board and its commercial division, Room & Board for Business, have recently partnered with Gensler, a global architecture and design firm, to introduce their first collaborative product collection. Named the “Lincoln Collection,” the new line features sit-stand desks and console desks designed to address wellness, technology integration, aesthetics, and storage needs in high-performing workspaces.
The collaboration was born from Room & Board’s focus on quality craftsmanship and Gensler’s expertise in human-centered design, two approaches that directly led to a collection based on sustainably sourced wood and ergonomic perfection. The collection is also complete with ample storage space, a must when organisation in the workspace is a key factor for efficiency. Furthermore, this can be described as an “all-American collection”, as the desks were named after Abraham Lincoln and reflect integrity, honest materials, and long-lasting construction.
Gene Wilson, Vice President of Merchandising & Vendor Management at Room & Board, explained that the partnership process was rewarding, resulting in a product that aligns with both brands’ values. He also highlighted the desk’s functionality as an adjustable-height storage solution and its compatibility with various home and workplace environments.
The Lincoln Desk Collection’s design elements are modern with a touch of practicality, making it suitable for virtually any space: homes, hotels, and offices. Customers can completely customize their desks, as they are served with various design options, including desk width, electric height-adjustable controls, storage configurations, wood types, and hardware finishes. The collection aligns with Room & Board’s sustainability goal of using 100% responsibly sourced wood by 2025, incorporating North American hardwoods that are known to meet strict environmental criteria.
The desks are designed for efficiency and functionality, featuring height-adjustable controls powered by a touch panel with three memory settings and adjustable lifting columns—they range from 30 inches tall at the lowest setting to 49 inches tall when fully extended. Additional safety features include a reverse function, a safety lock, anti-pinch software, and adjustable leveling mechanisms. For storage, the desks provide a hinged power hatch with a soft-close lid, cord openings in key areas, and spacious drawers capable of holding up to 100 lbs.
Scott Star, Gensler’s Director of Product Development, said the collection addresses key consumer needs that had been previously identified in their research, such as quick setup and pack-up of work materials, easy power access and wire management, and adaptability to various residential settings. Mark Morton, Design Director at Gensler, chose to highlight the warm, contemporary design of the desks, which, in his opinion, complements a variety of interiors. The concealed height adjustment mechanisms are, perhaps, the Design Director’s favorite element, as it gives the desk a non-industrial aesthetic while still giving users the very best ergonomic technology.
