The Boc Beach in Palma de Mallorca is not your typical hostel. Designed by ILMIODESIGN, the creative minds of Michele Corbani and Andrea Spada, this vibrant accommodation brings a fresh perspective to shared travel spaces. With its playful color contrasts, retro aesthetic, and carefully designed interiors, The Boc Beach offers guests a stay that feels like stepping into a Wes Anderson film set where every detail is intentional and every color tells a story.
Bold colors and 1950s Mediterranean influence
The surrounding 1950s Mediterranean architecture heavily inspires the design of The Boc Beach. Minimalist yet dynamic, curved railings and moldings reflect the era’s aesthetic while bringing the space a soft, welcoming feel. The color scheme plays a vital role in the design, combining desaturated blues with striking Ferrari reds to create an engaging and visually stimulating environment. These tones appear inside and outside the building, from railings and moldings to the striking ‘red room,’ a hypnotic space that serves as a focal point of the hostel.
Artful interiors with a retro touch
ILMIODESIGN crafted an artistic concept that blends nostalgic charm with a modern twist. Murals of swimmers, retro-style photographs, and playful prints of surfers and palm trees bring youthful energy to the space. This visual storytelling, combined with carefully chosen furniture and lighting, makes every corner of The Boc Beach feel like a curated experience.
One of the design’s standout elements is the use of glass mosaics on the floors, which add texture and artistic depth. Curved furniture with rounded edges further enhances the sense of movement and fluidity, ensuring the hostel feels cozy and dynamic.
Stylish dorms that prioritize comfort
While hostels are often associated with basic, cheap, and/or uncomfortable accommodations, The Boc Beach challenges that notion by offering stylish and comfortable dormitories. Every bunk bed is custom-designed, framed in warm wood veneer with rounded edges, and fitted with deep blue blackout curtains for privacy. The pastel blue walls and ceilings provide a sense of openness, while the contrasting red bathrooms add a bold, modern touch. Carefully designed lighting, including ILMIODESIGN’s own RING wall lamps manufactured by B.Lux, gives the rooms a warm, inviting glow.
Social spaces designed for connection
Beyond the dorms, The Boc Beach is designed to encourage social interaction. High tables with stools, low round tables with armchairs, and cozy hammocks create various spaces where guests can meet and connect. The outdoor terraces, bathed in Mediterranean sunshine, are perfect for shared moments and relaxation.
By focusing on a lively yet comfortable atmosphere, ILMIODESIGN has redefined the hostel experience, turning The Boc Beach into more than just a place to stay but a destination.
Recognition
With its bold aesthetic and carefully curated design, The Boc Beach has earned recognition in the world of interior design. ILMIODESIGN’s work on the project won the prestigious LIV Hospitality Design Award in the Interior Design Hostel category, solidifying its place as a standout example of innovative and thoughtful hostel design.
For travelers looking for more than just a bed, The Boc Beach offers an experience where every detail contributes to a unique and memorable stay.
