British lighting brand Original BTC has collaborated with German interior architect Fabian Freytag on a limited-edition version of their Blossom Portable Lamp. Known for his bold and expressive work, Freytag brings a graphic new treatment to the cordless, rechargeable lamp, introducing a hydro-dipped finish that contrasts a marbled black-and-white base with an iridescent green stem.
The Blossom Portable Lamp was selected for its simple form and indoor-outdoor flexibility, making it the perfect piece for the technique. The base is hydro-dipped using a printed film suspended on the surface of a water bath that once activated becomes a fluid skin that adapts to the shape of the object. After application, the piece is rinsed and sealed with a clear protective layer, resulting in a durable high-gloss finish.
The lamp is produced in Original BTC’s Oxfordshire factory, where the hydro-dipping process is added alongside the company’s usual production. While the base receives its marbled surface, the lamp’s stem is coated in a metallic green that changes tone depending on light and angle.
The collaboration is actually the first time Original BTC has partnered with a non-British designer, a novelty that follows a recent brand update. From now on, the focus of the brand is on achieving a more contemporary visual aesthetic, but their focus on British production and material consistency will not be forgotten any time soon.
Freytag’s version of Blossom is now available, but in a limited run. This object is, therefore, set to become a collectible, as its distinct finish and quality build ensure its longevity and uniqueness.
