The “God’s Fashion” collection is a series of furniture pieces where integrated lighting was placed into the functional surfaces, bringing them to a new, almost ethereal, level. Designed by Nadya Levina, the collection recently won the Illuminated Home Décor category at the LIT Lighting Design Awards, all because the designer felt an itch to bring back ancient Greek aesthetics to our modern homes.
The collection consists of a console table, a coffee table, and a side table, each designed with rounded forms and a combination of solid and veneer oak, MDF, brass, artificial stone, and acrylic. Each piece incorporates built-in lighting, embedded within the tabletops, which ends up producing a diffused glow that transitions the pieces from functional surfaces during the day to ambient light sources in the evening. A circular brass insert at the center of each tabletop contrasts with the illuminated acrylic, creating a structured and balanced composition.
The base of each component of the collection features cylindrical wooden legs, a reference to the classical form of ancient Greek columns, which are supported by a horizontal piece of brass. The lighting element is then integrated into the artificial stone surface without any visible fixtures or wires, giving the tables an almost sculptural look complemented by a halo of warm, ambient lighting. Designed for the mid+ and premium market, the collection’s main public are those who appreciate natural materials and understated geometric forms.
Sustainability was the most important part of the production phase, as those who care about natural materials also care about where they are sourced and what the carbon footprint of producing such a beautiful piece of furniture is. This care is reflected in the materials, solid oak, and veneer, chosen as a way to minimize synthetic materials. Furthermore, the design allows the pieces’ components to be replaced when needed, so their lifespan is extensively increased. But there’s more: the designer decided to locally source the materials used and chose production methods that create lower than normal carbon footprints.
“My projects are often inspired by nature and architecture, characterised by simple yet expressive forms and unconventional solutions. I work closely with production teams to bring every detail to life.”
