The Da House is constructed using certified solid wood and wood-based materials, ensuring a natural and recyclable framework. Its eco-conscious design incorporates passive technology, mobile foundations, and an emphasis on reducing the carbon footprint throughout the building’s lifecycle.
Dom Architektów, founded by a visionary husband and wife team, Emilia Durka-Zielińska and Walenty Durka, has developed an innovative “solid wood module” system. This approach involves prefabricating the structure as 3D wooden modules without using steel or vapor barrier foils. Built in their dedicated DA craft factory, the modules are designed for easy transport and assembly, minimizing environmental disruption.
Design meets functionality
The Da House’s compact, rectangular structure draws inspiration from the archetypal Polish barn. Its minimalistic design features a panoramic glass wall that merges the interior with the stunning Drwęca River Valley landscape. This seamless integration blurs the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces, offering breathtaking views from every room, including the main bedroom, bathroom, living room, and office.
The 140-square-meter modular home is designed for two residents, with an open plan that maximizes space and natural light. Interior elements such as walls, doors, and furnishings are crafted from spruce wood, creating a unified and warm aesthetic. Neutral colors and simple, pure lines enhance the serene atmosphere, allowing nature to take center stage.
Innovation in mobility and resilience
The Da House’s foundation system is a testament to its adaptability. Built on metal feet, the house is elevated above the ground, safeguarding it from periodic flooding in the river valley. This innovative system allows for easy relocation and ensures minimal impact on the land. The extended south-facing roof regulates the indoor microclimate, protecting the home from direct sunlight and rain.
Advanced technology complements the home’s sustainable features. A smart home system with LED lighting, radio-controlled switches, and an exterior emergency power bank enhances convenience and efficiency. The modular construction’s high thermal capacity and natural water vapor diffusion contribute to its ultra-high efficiency standards.
