Every New Year introduces a new wave of ideas shaping the world of furniture and interior design, and 2026 is no exception. As the New Year approaches many industry experts try to uncover what will be the hot new trends of 2026? BoConcept, the Danish retail furniture chain, posed this question to several of its top designers: Claudio Bellini, René Hougaard, Henrik Pedersen, and Hans Thyge Raunkjær. Here’s what they had to say.

Personalization of private spaces

According to designer Henrik Pederson eclecticism is set to make a huge comeback.

“There’s a strong focus on a more eclectic expression. Something not necessarily strict or streamlined. It’s important to be true and honest, mixing sleek new designs with personal items.”

His Danish colleague Hans Thyge Raunkjær agrees that the design of 2026 will be more adapted to personal tastes, where art and design will intersect with heirlooms, travel finds, and handmade objects. Handmade ceramics, for instance, would fit perfectly with modern slick furniture. Travel finds, and personal objects can be exhibited on massive shelving like BoConcept Calgary, while warm colors, materials, and vawy silhouettes will make any place feel more welcoming.

Configurable comfort with Milano collection

The modular seating will continue to flourish in 2026 because it provides plenty of opportunity for change. Italian designer Claudio Bellini claims that “Modular systems offer freedom – not just in layout, but in expression.” Modularity of the pieces allows the design to transform following changes in its owners’ lifestyle. Bellini suggests choosing a BoConcept modular sofas such as Milano or something similar that can grow with your needs and pair it with coffee tables and sculptural pieces. Ottomans and side tables present movable objects that will additionally connect the space.

Mindful, quiet retreats

The popularity of open-plan living spaces caused renewed interest in furniture that separates users from the outside world by cutting off noise and providing moments of rest. Calm corners with soft materials and enveloping forms can bring peace into the busy daily routine. “It’s about designing spaces that invite moments of pause, reflection, and sensory engagement,” said René Hougaard, designer of the innovative BoConcept Aarhus sofa. These  spaces favour layered wool, felt, and textured rugs that will not only absorb the noise but also bring a new soft touch to the aesthetic. The quiet corners in open-plan homes can be filled with enveloping seating furniture such as chairs from the Bolzano collection or Helena Christensen’s Ø chair.
