Mandarin Oriental Muscat Luxury Hotel Showcasing Omani Heritage and Contemporary Design

Winner of the LIV Hospitality Design Award in Architectural Design for the Middle East, the Mandarin Oriental Muscat shows what it means to experience luxury in Oman. Designed by Xavier Cartron SAS, with lead designer Xavier Cartron and contributions from Marwan Wakim and HOK, this project is a love letter to Omani culture wrapped in world-class hospitality.

From the moment guests arrive, they step through towering hand-carved wooden doors into a lobby that perfectly balances tradition and modernity. The three central fountains are a striking tribute to the cultural crossroads of the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, whispering serenity under the glow of a dazzling colored crystal chandelier.

The interiors speak the language of Omani craftsmanship at every turn. Local Desert Rose marble and ash wood set the tone. At the same time, intricate details, such as headboards inspired by traditional kuma and brass lanterns shaped after the iconic kandjar, celebrate the nation’s artistry. Handmade objects and bespoke design elements transform each of the 103 rooms and 47 suites into a unique story of Oman’s rich heritage.

The Mandarin Oriental Muscat, completed in June 2024 and brought to life by Larsen and Tourbo Oman, is a fusion of Omani hospitality and contemporary elegance. It offers guests not just a stay but an immersive encounter with the textures, colors, and spirit of Oman. A milestone for the country’s luxury hospitality scene and a showcase of design that respects and elevates cultural identity.

For those seeking an authentic yet elevated Omani experience, the Mandarin Oriental Muscat proves that tradition and modern luxury can and do coexist beautifully.
