Kromme Table uses a simple yet effective design. Made completely out of solid walnut veneer, the coffee table features a glass top carefully integrated into the table’s simple yet effective curvature. The curve was created from veneer sections laminated using 1.5 mm pieces moulded together. The curves, together with three supporting legs, provide the piece with an artistic, sculptural quality. Kromme Table by Nice Form has won the SIT Furniture Design Award in the Coffee Table category.

Coffee table inspired by the ocean
Curvy S-shaped table draws inspiration from ocean waves, and one long veneer strip is intentionally used to depict the never-ending flow of the sea. A symbolic meaning is paired with a sculptural design for those who want a statement, eye-grabbing piece that oozes contemporary while remaining highly functional. Apart from its symbolic meaning, the table’s creator, Robert Wakeland, decided on one fluid piece of veneer for simplicity – to create a very simple table from a design point of view. From the beginning, the table was intended to be unique in form and construction.

Low-waste crafting process
The manufacturing process starts by cutting the veneers into small, flexible panels. Nice Form studio uses a knife to cut the veneers. This method creates much less waste than other forms of cutting. For instance, a thicker saw blade can create up to 40% sawdust. The cut panels are then glued to each other for sturdiness. To reduce waste further, the designers used less desirable sections like sap wood for the interior and less visible parts. The outer, more visible layers are made from aesthetically pleasing straight-grain walnut. The beauty of the wood grain support is clearly visible through the glass top.

Once cut and glued together, the veneers are placed into an S-shaped mould and adjusted with wood clamps until the table gets its final shape. After that, three legs made of aluminium are added for additional support. In the end, a glass top is incorporated to complete the design. The table comes in the dimensions of 52.5 inch length, 17.5 inch width, and 14.0 inch height.

Handcrafted sustainable design
The design of the Kromme Table celebrates the beauty of wood while embracing its unique visual language, colours, and natural shades. Using wood as the primary source of construction has always been the motto of Nice Form, turning the material into the true star of its designs. Skilled craftsmanship is also on display, as every piece is carefully crafted by hand. Locally sourced materials are central to the company’s philosophy, which almost always relies on North American hardwood from nearby forests and mills.

Sustainable in concept, the handmade furniture pieces by Nice Form elevate any interior while remaining environmentally friendly. Inspired by nature, the Kromme Table is as bold as it is simple, proving that daring design and simplicity can exist in perfect balance.
