Located in Bangalore, India, Flat Muse is designed to explore the sense of openness while creating an inviting and visually striking ambience. Central to the project’s development was the commitment to a design philosophy rooted in conceptual depth, expressive elements, and the removal of superfluous elements. Studio Bomb has undertaken this approach to emphasize the abstraction of forms, richness of space, and contrast of materials.
The apartment’s compositional nature consists of a social area that includes a living room and a dining room which extends into a balcony. Adjoining the dining room are secondary functions such as the kitchen. The private area consists of three bedrooms. The social is central to the apartment with the master bedroom and the kitchen on one side and guests’ and kids’ bedrooms on the opposite side.
The principal architect, Shankar Kallutla, created a captivating atmosphere with a touch of drama by the interplay of light and shadow. To enhance this poetic atmosphere, a carefully chosen palette of dark tones was employed. This was achieved by providing a backdrop that adds depth and character to the design. The design team deliberately chose tactile materials to evoke a sense of serenity and comfort.
Walnut Veneer is the main material, wrapping the living and dining rooms. It provides order and form which is complemented by open and closed metal racking and an integrated bar in shades of grey. The bar runs alongside a lateral path creating an envelope and strengthening the continuity between the spaces.
The living area of Flat Muse features the distinctive Camaleonda sofa by B&B Italia, combined with custom chairs and coffee tables. The dining area showcases Frank chairs designed by Piero Lissoni, surrounding a custom veined marble table and a sideboard elevating the space to new heights. The bedrooms are thoughtfully crafted to create a holistic experience, highlighted with inviting warm hues, exuding a serene ambience, complemented by metal, leather upholstery, and bespoke pieces.
Through its architectural details and the connection between indoors and outdoors, Flat Muse achieves a perfect balance between the elegance of modern living and the sanctuary of privacy. Its design represents sophistication without veering into preciousness. Flat Muse also honours grace while embracing the natural elements of the world around us.
