Hangzhou’s Jiuxi Rose Garden represents an intersection between nature and the city. This 500-square-meter private residence in Jiuxi, situated in a beautiful park, showcases a lifestyle in balance with its natural surroundings. Vibrancy and subtlety emerge in the precisely carved details.

In a dialogue with the surrounding nature
The large private home extends into the park through a courtyard. A stone path leads toward the residence secluded in the soft vegetation. The podocarpus tree creates a natural canopy, filtering light and casting changing patterns across the courtyards. Inside, the living room visually opens toward the courtyard, with vegetation and light flowing between inside and outside. By breaking the boundaries between the indoors and the outdoors, the architecture follows the rhythmic cycle of the four seasons.

Lighting and tea corner
Floor-to-ceiling window allows for plenty of natural light into the room. The Signoretto floor lamp releases a gentle, layered illumination that matches the organic vitality of the courtyard. A deep grey sofa in the living room is paired with a warm ochre armchair reminiscent of autumn leaves dispersed through a forest. A table at the centre features raw wood grain with metal textures. The delicate veining of wood powerfully portrays the subtle imprint of time. A tea area is designed in the corner of the room. Deliberately simple, the area features only a wooden tea table, a teapot, and a few cups that quietly define the setting. Intimate and intentionally minimal, the space draws the slow philosophy of Eastern living indoors.

Kitchen and dining room
The kitchen and dining room share a semi-open layout that allows fluid circulation. Two zones are separated by glass sliding doors, which visually open the space. A round dining table is surrounded by a soft leather chair, while the diffused glow coming from cascading pendant lights illuminates the space. The study room is discreetly tucked into a corner of the ground floor, boasting a wooden desk, shelves, and a meditative view of the greenery. Public and private areas are connected through the hallway, where light dances across the space. The sculptural handrail alongside the staircase features wood textures and marble surfaces that leave a strong aesthetic impression.

The natural colour palette
The family lounge serves as the heart of daily interaction and rest, with art books and family memorabilia on the shelf. In front of the shelf, a soft fabric sofa is paired with tea tables in dark tones. The master bedroom walls are painted white to cultivate a restful atmosphere. Pendant light next to the bed illuminates the space at night. During the day, gentle sunlight protrudes through the sheer curtain, illuminating the chestnut-toned wooden floor. An amber armchair and a creamy lounge chair rest beside a small, smooth table.
The natural colour palette extends into the guest bedroom. Curved soft brown hardwood complements the textures of the wall, creating a homogenous composition. The studio on the third floor unleashed creativity, with a drawing table located in the centre. The sunlight breaks through the greenery to cast light on the table and the surrounding easel, palettes, and pigments.
