Embarking on a mission to revolutionize home workouts, IKEA introduces the DAJLIEN collection, a groundbreaking fusion of fitness and design. Recognizing the challenges and drawbacks associated with exercising at home, this innovative collection aims to pave the way for enhanced and more accessible workout experiences within our living spaces.
Derived from the belief that simplicity fosters consistency, the DAJLIEN collection strives to make exercising a seamless part of daily life. The collection’s name, DAJLIEN, draws inspiration from the Småland accent, translating to “daily” and echoing IKEA’s commitment to making physical activity achievable for everyone, every day.
Drawing insights from home visits in metropolises like New York, Chicago, London, and Shanghai, IKEA uncovered common hurdles tied to home workouts. These challenges include issues with motivation, limited space, time constraints, and the discomfort often associated with traditional gym settings. To address these concerns, the DAJLIEN collection features smart, adaptable products that not only overcome these challenges but also seamlessly integrate into home decor.
Blurring the lines between training equipment and stylish storage solutions, the DAJLIEN collection is a testament to IKEA’s commitment to multi-functional design. Each product in the collection serves not only as exercise equipment but also as aesthetically pleasing and practical design elements.
“Not everyone feels safe or comfortable going to a gym and at home we often deal with small space and time constraints. DAJLIEN was born from the desire to find smart solutions that address these limitations and help people create a convenient and motivating place for exercise”, says Sarah Fager, Designer at IKEA of Sweden. “We wanted to create smart, beautiful products to inspire and redefine training as a fun, easy and natural everyday activity.”
The DAJLIEN collection envisions a home that is not just a living space but an active one. Featuring subtle colors and intricate details, the products seamlessly blend into the home environment, encouraging daily use. The collection includes exercise mats, a step-up board, and ring-shaped dumbbells, all designed for easy use, storage, and portability.
At the heart of the collection is the sturdy and versatile DAJLIEN bench with storage, drawing inspiration from classic gym equipment. This focal point of multi-functional design invites various bodyweight exercises, doubling as storage for workout gear or functioning as a practical coffee table.
Going beyond conventional fitness gear, the DAJLIEN collection extends to recovery and stress relief products, such as an air purifier, yoga straps, kneepads, a massage ball, and a portable Bluetooth speaker—all presented in soft and soothing shades. Wearable pieces like slippers and ponchos cater to post-workout relaxation and wellness.
“DAJLIEN is all about supporting movement and helping people live more active lives at home. We have designed a collection that helps bridge the gap between home and active life, that recognizes that training can take many shapes and forms and that you don’t need a lot of space to do a simple workout”, says Akanksha Deo, Designer at IKEA of Sweden.
Scheduled for a global launch in January 2024, the DAJLIEN collection will be available for six months or until supplies last.
