House on Georgian Bay: A Contemporary Coastal Home Designed for Generations

Header: Riley Snelling

House on Georgian Bay, a new project by &Pierre, draws inspiration from the beach. Designed to replace an old family cottage, this year-long residence is designed for logivity. Therefore, the designers focused on two principles: ageing in place and long-term livability in their contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional cottage.

Mirroring the coastal landscape

Located by the coastline, the designer drew inspiration from the immediate surroundings, which include sand, water, and natural stone. Embracing a reciprocal relationship with the environment, the design emphasises refinement, simplicity, and material restraint. Jointly, the interior and exterior work in conjunction to create a seamless dialogue between indoors and the landscape.

“We wanted the home to honour the memory of the original cottage, while creating something enduring, refined, and deeply connected to its setting.”

Amazing view and locally sourced materials

The expansive view of the bay allows natural light to enter the space and reshape it through illumination. Materials are locally sourced, including limestone plaster, white oak, and linen. The muted coastal tones reflect the shifting textures, while depth and softness are introduced with natural finishes. As a result, the family home gives a sense of timeless, tactile calmness while simultaneously boasting contemporary design.

Warm, comfortable living design

Three levels of the Georgian Bay house are meant to support flexible living and intuitive circulation. Therefore, the architectural precision of the design is softened with warmth in every area. Spatial planning prioritises comfort to make the home functional in daily life, but also a perfect place to host guests and extended family. The cosiness, accessibility, and year-round performance do not interfere with the integrity of the design.

Design grounded in place

The design of the Georgian Bay house reflects Andrea Pierre’s belief that great design should be grounded in place. With over 16 years in the interior design industry, Pierre has always been guided by collaboration and material integrity. Across residential, hospitality, and commercial work, she brings clarity and material sensitivity to each project, shaping functional interiors while remaining comfortable and intuitive.

The House on Georgian Bay provides a comfortable living experience for the family and a perfect guest house for extended family and friends. The beach-inspired design and colour palette bring the exterior indoors, while locally sourced materials further strengthen the relationship with the surroundings – one of the main principles of &Pierre’s interior design.
