Germany’s Leading Private Broadcaster RTL Gets an HQ-Makeover by Evolution Design

Germany’s largest private television network RTL is getting a makeover with the help of the Evolution Design team. The master plan for the broadcasting company’s headquarters will introduce new projects into the 80,000-square-meter facility. Two of those projects are informal meeting hubs that will help employees connect with one another and foster human interaction.

These socialization hubs represent a milestone in designing changes at RTL and the ongoing transformation following the pandemic. These hubs will offer RTL’s employees an alternative to conventional meeting settings, and encourage social interactions.

The design was focused on incorporating the colors of the broadcasting company, making these hubs vibrant and creative. The playfulness of the interior is further emphasized in the shapes of furniture—from round coffee counters to oak zigzag-shaped tables. These elements in design create the atmosphere of collaboration and productivity that correspond to the RTL’s ongoing work environment goals.

Besides communicating and interacting with fellow colleagues, employees can quench their thirst with tea or water, or energize themselves with a cup of coffee thanks to the counters, made from brushed stainless steel, equipped with coffee machines, tea-making facilities, and water taps.

An additional element of design is lighting. From halo lights to illumination lamps, it creates a dynamic atmosphere and continues the blend of shapes that is consistent in furnishing.

As the hubs’ open-plan design allows them to have multiple zones within them, it provides space to have large-scale events, presentations, and video productions. Next to the social hubs are workshop rooms that can be used to replace the formal meeting setting. This goes to demonstrate the efforts the company has implemented to make the workplace more dynamic and energetic.

In these vibrant informal settings, people can get a chance to slow down, which is a treat in itself when working in such a fast-paced work environment as that of the media. By improving the space where people not only work but relax as well, RTL is a frontrunner in implementing a human-centered work environment in the post-pandemic work setting.
