Celebrate the Legacy of Swarovski with Its Masters of Light Exhibition at Milan’s Palazzo Citterio

Opened on June 17 at Milan’s Palazzo Citterio, Swarovski‘s Master of Light – from Vienna to Milan exhibition has become one of the city’s most popular events. Rightfully so, as it combines in itself both the history of the Swarovski brand and its inseparable connection to the world of fashion throughout its existence.

This is the first such experience for the brand where Swarovski is represented through a multi-faceted exploration of its past and present. The choice of the city to host this fashion exhibition couldn’t be any more appropriate–as Milan is not only the capital of Italian fashion but also one of the world’s most influential fashion metropolises. Those who wish to experience this celebration of fashion firsthand have a chance to do so until July 14.

What to Expect

Inside Palazzo Citterio, you will find five different chambers—Time Chamber, Future History Chamber, Masters of Light Chamber, Mathemagical Chamber, and finally Pop Icons Chamber. Besides the different chambers, an exclusive Angelic Milan capsule collection will be available for purchase at the pop-up store of the exhibition.

Each chamber presents its own unique story and function. For example, Time Chamber showcases the transformation of Swarovski, its impact on fashion and culture, and most importantly, the craftsmanship that in the span of three centuries has become an example of exceptional artistry.

The Mathemagical Chamber was curated by Swarovski Global Creative Director Giovanna Engelbert. It includes jewelry-couture pieces for the 2024 Met Gala among other Swarovski Crystals in different shapes and forms, with exceptional home objects and fashion elements.

‘I curated this chamber as an ode to Swarovski Crystal. It celebrates Swarovski’s history as creators of crystal – and our modern heritage as a jewelry brand since 1977. Inspiration comes from the savoir-faire of our artistry, the geometric form of each jewel, and the prism of color that crystal creates when charmed by light. These have each shaped my designs – crystal cuts inspire the forms of our modern icons: the Millenia, the Lucent, the Harmonia, the Mesmera. All crystallize our DNA.’

Masters of Light Chamber continues the story of the Mathemagical Chamber focusing instead on the light that each crystal entails. Needless to say, Swarovski is renowned for its shiny and sparkly crystals, resulting in the exceptional glow and luminescence of each peace.

The last two chambers—Future History Chamber and Pop Icons Chamber—present exceptional pieces created by fashion legends and stage and cinema costumes, as well as red-carpet outfits that were created in collaboration with Swarovski. Proving its role in the history of the fashion and pop-culture worlds, Swarovski helped reshape our perception of beauty, evolved the expression of freedom through style, and transformed creative values.

Last but not least is the Swarovski Cafe with a special menu created by renowned Milanese chef Carlo Cracco. Located in the garden of Palazzo Citterio, this colorful pop-up cafe among the trees is an ideal location to relax after the exhibition and maybe to buy some pieces from the exclusive capsule collection.
