At the 2025 edition of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, an annual event focused on historic and concept vehicles held on the shores of Lake Como, BMW presented its Concept Speedtop. This new design study will be produced in a limited series. Developed as a reinterpretation of the traditional Touring silhouette, the Concept Speedtop combines the proportions of a shooting brake with exploring how a dynamic design can completely redefine the rest of a vehicle’s architecture.
Dual-tone design
Built around a low, elongated profile, the Concept Speedtop features a continuous central spline that starts at the hood, runs across the roof, and extends to the rear spoiler, completely linking the car’s front and rear. This element pops out through a two-tone paint finish that goes from a deep maroon tone at the front—referred to as “Floating Sunstone Maroon”—to a silver shade at the rear known as “Floating Sundown Silver”. To top it all off, the car includes a shark-nose contour, narrow headlights, and an illuminated kidney grille. The wheels, designed specifically for this concept, have a 14-spoke pattern and are finished in two tones, just like the body’s colour palette.
Moving to the interior, the cabin is designed for two passengers, and its design focuses on comfort during long drives. The two-tone theme was kept, this time applied to the leather used throughout the space: the darker “Sundown Maroon” contrasts with a light “Moonstone White”, used on the seats and upper surfaces. In the leather-covered headliner, lights seem to trace the exterior roof spline, creating soft indirect lighting along the car’s interior axis.
Behind the seats, two storage areas secured with leather straps have been fitted to accommodate custom leather bags, produced specifically for the vehicle by the Italian manufacturer Schedoni. These bags follow the same material and colour choices as the car’s interior and include two small cases and an additional weekend bag that fits into the main luggage space.
Collaboration and power
The vehicle was developed and built with the support of BMW’s Manufacturing team at the Dingolfing plant, where small-batch and custom vehicles are produced with a higher degree of hand-finishing. As with the BMW Skytop, another concept first shown at Villa d’Este in 2024 and later released in a limited edition, the Concept Speedtop will be made available to a small number of buyers—a total of 70 units will be produced.
“Last year, the presentation of the BMW Concept Skytop at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on Lake Como generated great enthusiasm among connoisseurs and automotive enthusiasts. This led to a strictly limited production run of 50 units. Thanks to this positive response, this year we have decided to also offer the BMW Concept Speedtop in a limited production series of 70 units. This extraordinary vehicle is now available for order. We are pleased to be able to offer collectors and enthusiasts another exclusive model.”
Bernd Körber, Senior Vice President of BMW Brand and Product Managemen
The Speedtop is powered by BMW’s most powerful V8 currently in production, the same engine found in several of the brand’s high-performance models. While we would love to know more about specific technical figures, nothing has been shared yet with the public, which means that we all have to patiently wait for the impressive car to make its appearance in Italy – it couldn’t come sooner, in our opinion.
