For the renovation of Blue Belle, a 5,290-square-foot beachfront villa, Studio IDC reworked the existing four-bedroom, four-bathroom structure to bring the interiors closer in tone and character to the surrounding landscape. The design was focused on lightening the mood: cool neutrals and soft tones replaced the previously saturated scheme, helping the interior feel more open to the sea and sky.
The coastal design
Modernisation efforts centred on choosing the right materials and on comfort. New flooring was laid to create a coherent interior, and mosaic tiles in the bathrooms were introduced to give each space a special identity. Fixtures and fittings were upgraded in all wet areas to ensure that the villa could be used as a high-end hospitality property.
The kitchen was opened and brightened so owners and guests could enjoy the space. Furthermore, the designers attempted to connect the interior with the sunny outdoors, making it seem as if the home is as natural to the landscape as dunes and seashells.
Repurposing what is possible
Sustainability was always on the mind of the designers, who decided to maintain existing hardwood furniture, such as mahogany beds and rattan seating, and have it reupholstered by local craftsmen. These pieces now sit alongside custom elements, including unique lighting fixtures and locally sourced artwork.
