A Quiet Revolution in Quang Nam as a Textile Factory Becomes a Garden of Work

In Quang Nam, Vietnam, there is a building that defies the typical monotony of industrial architecture. Ho Khue ArchitectsTextile Factory Office transforms a rigid industrial structure into what the firm calls a “Green Oasis.” Finished in 2023, the project earned recognition at the BLT Built Design Awards for its innovative blend of functionality and human-centred design.

Inspired by the mechanics of a textile loom, the architects reimagined the factory’s concrete framework, interweaving it with greenery. This integration softens the industrial aesthetic and creates a visual contrast that brings the workspace to life without diminishing its functional requirements. Plants are integrated into the building, softening the space and providing a healthier environment for employees.

The design prioritises natural light and cross-ventilation. Large openings and carefully placed glazing connect interior spaces with the outside, improving comfort and reducing reliance on artificial lighting and ventilation. Transparent partitions within the office create a sense of openness and visual connection between areas. This arrangement encourages collaboration while maintaining the necessary separation for productivity.

Every design element emphasises users’ health and well-being. Indoor greenery, natural light, and ventilated spaces collectively foster a healthier environment, supporting both physical comfort and mental focus. In doing so, the project demonstrates that industrial architecture can be more than purely functional; it can also enhance its occupants’ daily experience.

The unusually green project also carries cultural significance. By infusing the workspace with design elements inspired by Vietnam’s textile heritage, Ho Khue Architects celebrate the country’s traditional craft while addressing modern industrial needs. Employees spend time in an environment that reflects pride and dignity in their work, creating a meaningful link between heritage and modern production practices.

The building meets the operational needs of a textile factory while also enhancing the workspace environment. It shows that even industrial buildings can be designed to be both functional and pleasant to use.

With this project, Ho Khue Architects present a compelling model for industrial architecture in Vietnam and beyond. By blending concrete structure with greenery, maximising natural light and ventilation, and integrating cultural inspiration, the Textile Factory Office proves that industrial spaces can be productive, human-centred, and visually engaging, all without sacrificing efficiency.
