Scribble by HON: A Tactile Chair that Improves Student Focus and Movement

Header: HON Company

Scribble is a new educational solution from HON Company. The chair, which aims to promote student engagement, inclusivity and focus, introduces a “sensory scribble“, a looping texture beneath the seat that lets students ground themselves without distracting others. Designed for kindergartens and schools, the chair offers durability, flexibility, and easy cleaning in a range of base and colour options.

“Students learn in different ways, and the classroom should give them the freedom to move, shift, and engage in ways that feel natural. Scribble brings that philosophy to life by giving students a quiet, intuitive outlet for movement while helping educators create focused, flexible learning environments.”

Sensory Scribble

The sensory design of the Scribble chair provides a tactile pathway integrated directly into the chair. Inspired by students who doodle or tap pens while thinking, HON created a deliberately tactile experience. Educators and students tested the options without seeing the designs, evaluating them solely by touch. The feedback pointed to a continuous line that can be traced from the beginning to the end.

Designed through students’ feedback

The tactile pathway incorporated into the chair supports students who need tactile movement to focus. The uninterrupted path offers a predictable motion that helps students feel grounded and focus without the use of any additional tools. The final design of the Scribble chair employs feedback from students, school leaders, educators and experts to balance serviceability, inclusion and comfort within educational environments.

Apart from the innovative sensory scribble, the chair features a responsive feel designed to move with the users as they change positions. The contoured seat made of polypropylene and 11.5-degree flexible back supports numerous sitting styles and body types. From upright sitting to resting back, the students can move quietly without disrupting others in class.

Stackability, mobility, base and colour options

Streamlined silhouette and built-in carry handle make the chair easily movable and stackable, allowing educators to reconfigure classrooms for various learning styles. The chair can support individual work or gather together for group collaboration. Engineered to withstand daily wear and tear, Scribble boasts durability and yearlong use. Additionally, the chair is easy to clean. Scribble also holds a Health Product Declaration, BIFMA LEVEL 2 certification, Indoor Advantage Gold certification, and Children’s Product Certificate.

The users can choose from a whopping 16 polymer shell colours and 19 painted base variants to facilitate zoning and orientation, while reinforcing school identity. From October 28 to October 30, 2026, Scribble will be on view at The HON Company’s booth during EDspaces in Kansas City, Missouri. Situated in the Kansas City Convention Centre, EDspaces showcases designs that shape learning environments.
