Tile Lamp Turns Ceramic and Metal Into a Statement Piece for Interior Lighting

Heading: IDEA DESIGN

Tile is a sculptural luminaire created in a combination of tradition and modernity, craftsmanship and industry. By drawing inspiration from the ancestral bricks and Mediterranean culture, the furniture piece goes beyond lighting. Tile blends the warmth of ceramic and the precision and durability of metal to create an immersive piece that’s simultaneously contemporary and rooted in tradition.

The interaction between the light, the user and the environment

Tile lamp reinterprets classic materials to create a unique sensory experience and redefine the interplay between light, space and the user. While trying to capture the essence of the Mediterranean, the designers from IDEA DESIGN explored the materials’ impact on human perception of space. They explored numerous contact points between the user, the environment and the light to create an atmosphere with a strong sense of identity.

The Tile was developed through an exploration process where the combination of materials not only defined the final product, but also the experience. The metal provides structure, the ceramic conveys emotion. Every decision in the creative process is aimed at turning ceramics and metal into a unified system where light, texture, and structure can coexist in equilibrium. The process that included anticipation, architectural references, prototyping and optimising every detail was based on repetition, accuracy, and strategic vision.

The architectural character of the Tile lamp

The Tile lamp transforms the lighting into an architectural element with meaning. The lamp does more than just cast light on the surrounding environment – it provides structure and character, shaping the space with its presence. The selection of two seemingly contrasting materials, the warm ceramic and cold, resilient metal, presented a challenge for the designers who tried to create a harmonious dialogue between materials with opposing behaviours and textures.

Between craftsmanship and industrial manufacturing

The lamp features a modular system that allows for numerous customisation options and finishes. The users can pick between numerous colours, including white, blue, and red, to accommodate their space or personal taste. Every customisation option conveys a different story, making each Tile luminaire a personal statement. All Tile lamps are handmade from natural materials, which means that every lamp has the subtle variations that make it unique. Moulds were used to ensure functional stability, but the small variations reveal the touch of the artisan, turning the lighting fixture into a one-of-a-kind sculptural object.

Winning in the Lamp category at the SIT Furniture Design Awards, the Tile lamp has drawn the attention of professionals in the lighting industry. With its unparalleled mixture of materials and unique, ambient interplay, the Tile lamp does not just illuminate the space – it shapes atmosphere and fosters connections, turning any space into a living, sensorial experience.
