Inspired by the Greek word metis, which has a multitude of meanings, the Metiz collection by Tonon showcases cosy, comfortable seating shaped by round, welcoming design. The designer deliberately opted for a rounded shape that makes the collection more organic and versatile.
The inspiration behind the Metiz collection
Roughly translated, metis can be described as “a relationship strategy with others based on intelligence and cunning“. But Metis is also the name of Jupiter’s fourth moon, known for being the fastest of the planet’s satellites. Playing with phonetics, the designer of the collection, David Fox, has replaced “s” with a “z”, starting a new concept for Tonon. The collection originally consisted of a chair, a lounge, a sofa, two poufs, and two coffee tables.
Metiz Lounge Armchair
The soft aesthetic of the chair is further enhanced with soft, squashy upholstery and back support. The multi-density polyurethane, paired with a system of invisible elastic belts, guarantees a comfortable seating experience. The seat is mounted on a delicate steel structure for support. Metiz Lounge has won the SIT Furniture Design Award in the Armchair category. SIT Furniture Design Award honours the finest designs made by professionals and students in over 80 categories made in the last 5 years.
Metiz Sofa, chair, and pouf
Other items in the collection are made following the same principle: polyurethane supported by a steel structure. The Metiz sofa pairs comfortable seating with a backrest fit for prolonged sitting, while the Metiz pouf follows a similar structure without the backrest. Unlike the lounge chair that comes only in blue, the sofa features a red finish as well.
The High Metiz Stool is defined by its precise proportions (measuring 57 cm in width, 106 cm in height, and 57 cm in depth). Made in a somewhat lighter blue shade than the rest of the collection, while maintaining the same stability and cosiness, the stool is a great addition to every space, including residential, hospitality, corporate, and other locations.
Tonon: Made in Italy
