The new TOPOS collection is one of the most recent winners of the SIT Furniture Design Awards. It was designed by Zaha Hadid Architects for the Spanish outdoor furniture brand iSiMAR. The collection includes an outdoor chair constructed using 100% recycled galvanised steel, which was selected for its resistance to corrosion in outdoor settings and long-term durability.
The design creates a geometric-like structure formed by the slender steel elements arranged in a linear pattern. These elements contribute to both the chair’s structural stability and striking look. But there’s more: the steel structure can adapt to the user’s posture while remaining secure.
The form was inspired by topographical contour lines, and Zaha Hadid Architects applied principles from geographic mapping into three-dimensional design. This concept is reflected in the chair’s flowing lines and interconnected structure, but also in its name: “TOPOS,” derived from the Greek word for “place,” refers to its intended use in varied outdoor settings such as coastal terraces, poolside areas, and garden environments.
