IKEA Celebrates 30 Years at Milan Design Week with a New Iconic Collection

IKEA Celebrates 30 Years at Milan Design Week with a New Iconic Collection

In 1995, IKEA debuted at Milan Design Week, introducing the world to the concept of Democratic Design, which emphasizes form, function, low price, quality, and sustainability. Now, 30 years later, IKEA returns to Design Week again, this time taking over Tenoha, Via Vigevano 18, from April 7 to 13. Throughout the exhibition, visitors will experience interactive illustrations of Democratic Design and its principles, including the world-exclusive launch of the new STOCKHOLM 2025 collection. This collection, focused on creating high-quality Scandinavian design at an affordable price, showcases how quality design can turn collections into collectables.

The exhibition will also feature an area called ‘Do Something. Change Everything,’ which explores how small, everyday actions can create a meaningful impact. IKEA’s deep knowledge of life at home and sustainability will be at the forefront, as the brand highlights its ongoing work to inspire positive habits. The exhibition will showcase the concrete steps IKEA is taking to make sustainable products a reality and inspire lasting change in how we live.

The location will open its doors from morning to evening to design enthusiasts, music connoisseurs, food lovers, and the creatively curious alike. The space will be packed with activities throughout the week, featuring a house band every evening and artist collectives from Milan and beyond curating nightly parties—open to all with no registration required. Labs and talks on various topics, from screen printing to flag making, and lively discussions over an aperitivo with Munich-based creative platform Public Possession will take place every day.

As always during Milan Design Week, the IKEA venue will be perfect for tired feet and hungry stomachs. The restaurant will serve a delicious range of affordable food and drinks, including Smörgås Sensation—this year’s follow-up to 2024’s massively popular Hot Dog Extravaganza. “Smörgås” is the Swedish word for sandwich, and visitors will savor this slice of Scandinavia in the heart of Milan, designed and served exclusively for Design Week 2025.

The IKEA presence at Milan Design Week will extend beyond Via Vigevano 18, as the brand supports The Glitch Camp by Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) for the second year in a row. The urban campsite, which is free to stay at, is specifically for students traveling from all over the world for Milan Design Week. IKEA Italy will provide “Perfect Sleep Kits” for each tent, ensuring a better sleep experience for students. This year, IKEA is also collaborating with IED students to create indoor and outdoor common areas at the camp, featuring second-hand furniture, further emphasizing its commitment to sustainability and the circular economy.
