Studio WYZE Unveils TATTU Dubai: A 3-Level Design Journey with Dragons, Carps, and a Phoenix

Studio WYZE, the interior design firm with offices in London and Zurich, has revealed the new interiors for TATTU Dubai. This is a big move for the Permanently Unique Group’s TATTU brand, marking its first location outside the UK. The project is located within the Ciel Tower in Dubai Marina, a building that stands 365 meters tall. The design firm handled the restaurant and bar, an infinity pool, and a sky lounge and terrace. The entire design is based on old legends, giving each floor its own distinct feeling: from the dragon’s elegance to the carp’s calm, and the phoenix’s lively energy.

Guests arrive in a dramatic, triple-height atrium. This entrance space is a modern take on a Chinese courtyard and is centered around TATTU’s signature large cherry blossom tree. On either side of this main space, reception areas invite guests to explore the different dining and bar experiences on other floors. TATTU Dubai covers three levels, offering wide-open views across the Palm and a perfect spot to watch the city’s sunsets. The experience is rounded out by two private dining rooms, which provide intimate settings where the storytelling, symbolism, and atmosphere all come together.

Level 74: The dragon’s duality of light and dark

High up on the 74th floor, the TATTU Restaurant & Bar has a rich atmosphere based on ancient mythology. It serves Tattu’s well-known modern Asian cuisine. The design idea comes from the black and white dragon, creating a duality of light and dark. This feeling is made stronger by the captivating views of Dubai Marina, The Palm, and Jumeirah.

The Black Dragon Dining Room features a ceiling designed to look like a dragon in motion, showcasing an organic shape. These flowing shapes are repeated on the columns and walls, creating a connected and inviting dining space. The adjoining White Dragon Sunset Lounge provides a visual contrast to the black dragon, acting as symbols of balance: the Yin & Yang.

Studio WYZE’s Co-founder, Chris Sayce, explained the materials used here:

“The restaurant adopts a very moody palette – featuring Shou-Sugi-Ban charred Japanese Cedar timber, richly veined marble, amethyst glass, and custom wallpapers – materials that reflect the depth of the black dragon. In contrast, the bar is shaped by the white dragon’s influence, with a lighter palette of white-washed timber, onyx, mirror and pewter.”

The Private Dining Room also plays with contrasts, offering a cosier, home-like feeling with great views of The Palm. It features lacquered timber panels and detailed fretwork, paired with oversized hanging lanterns. A large table made of cut Avalanche Quartzite stands as a modern version of traditional Chinese design, mixing contemporary and cultural elements.

Level 76: The carp and the world’s highest pool

Moving up to level 76, guests find the TATTU Sky Pool, which has earned the title of the world’s highest infinity pool. While the restaurant floor was inspired by the dragon, these interiors are based on the elegant carp. This story runs through every part of the space, seen in the color palette of aqua tones, glazed ceramics, white-washed timbers, rattan, and flowing off-white fabrics.

The Tattu Sky Pool Restaurant, serving Japanese-style food, offers an ideal setting for daytime dining among the clouds. The exterior design stays consistent, with a feature cocktail bar and lounge. A central circular DJ booth creates an energetic oasis high above the city. The terrace is surrounded by lush planting, providing a green escape from the city far below.

Level 81: The Phoenix rises in the Sky Lounge

Perched at the very top of Ciel Tower on Level 81, the TATTU Sky Lounge & Terrace completes the experience. This space is inspired by the phoenix and changes from an elegant daytime cocktail lounge into a lively nightclub after dark. Studio WYZE designed a ceiling that looks like a rising birdcage, curving inward from the walls to meet above a centrally positioned bar made of backlit pink onyx. This softly glowing bar acts as a beacon, crowning the top of the tower. It serves as both a focal point and a sculptural highlight. Its 360-degree, air-conditioned terrace provides dramatic views of Dubai’s famous skyline.

Studio WYZE’s Co-founder, Christina Arbenz, describes the journey as guests move through this final space:

“Guests are greeted with a vibrant colour palette, tactile fabric-fronted bar, rich textural carpets, and heavily veined marbles, which infuse the space with energy and personality. A setting designed for unforgettable nights high above the city.”

From the lively interior, guests can move into the perimeter gallery, which is a wraparound terrace offering 360-degree views of Dubai. The phoenix story continues into this outside space, featuring Jurassic-style planting and plush lounge seating that create a surreal ‘roof-top’ orangery.
