In a move set to redefine luxury travel, Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Global (RSG) has announced the opening of Shebara, the newest addition to its growing portfolio of regenerative tourism destinations. Nestled in the heart of the Red Sea’s pristine ecosystem, Shebara is more than just a resort – it’s a celebration of luxury, sustainability, and innovation.
Luxury meets sustainability
As the first resort owned and operated by RSG, Shebara represents a harmonious blend of modern luxury and environmental stewardship. Featuring 73 overwater and beachfront villas, the resort’s architecture pays homage to its natural surroundings, with structures designed to appear as if they are floating on the turquoise waters of the Red Sea. The unique stainless-steel orbs, which refract light and blend seamlessly with the horizon, are a testament to Shebara’s innovative design ethos.
The LEED-Platinum property is powered entirely by its own solar farm, with fresh water supplied from a solar-powered desalination plant. Recycling of waste material takes place on the island, minimizing the need to bring or remove materials from the site. These innovations form part of a visitor experience where guests can be exposed to and learn about the approach that goes into making the project a truly sustainable development.
John Pagano, Group CEO of Red Sea Global, expressed his enthusiasm:
“We are immensely proud to open Shebara to the world, yet another remarkable milestone for Red Sea Global and Saudi tourism. This luxury and truly one-of-a-kind resort embodies our commitment to innovative design and sustainable tourism. I am genuinely excited for our first guests to experience the unparalleled beauty and serenity of Shebara, where every detail has been crafted to create unforgettable memories.”
Unparalleled experiences
Shebara’s location offers guests direct access to some of the world’s most biodiverse and untouched marine environments. From vibrant coral reefs to diverse marine life, the Red Sea is a diver’s paradise. For those seeking relaxation, the resort boasts an exceptional spa sanctuary with nature-inspired treatments, five luxurious treatment rooms, and the soothing backdrop of sun, sea, and soft white sand.
Culinary enthusiasts will delight in world-class dining experiences curated by renowned chefs. Dining spans five restaurants, including iki.roe serving Japanese-Nikkei cuisine and Ariamare, led by Michelin-starred chef Marco Garfagnini, focusing on Mediterranean flavors. Other venues include international brasserie Lunara, the Levantine-inspired Saria Pool Bar & Grill, and Solera, an adults-only pool bar serving mocktails.
The resort’s state-of-the-art fitness center and premium amenities ensure that every aspect of a guest’s stay is tailored to indulgence and well-being.
Shebara’s unparalleled hospitality is deeply rooted in the Saudi tradition of Hafawah, which embodies generosity, thoughtfulness, and kindness, providing guests with unique, timeless, and exceptional experiences.
Model for sustainable development
Shebara is a model for sustainable development, showcasing RSG’s commitment to responsible tourism. Designed by the renowned, award-winning firm Killa Design, the architecture is completely unique, with each stainless steel orb – whether above the water or on the beach – almost disappearing into the horizon as the surface refracts the light.
Powered by its own solar farm and featuring integrated utilities, the resort sets new standards in eco-friendly hospitality. The innovative design enhances the guest experience and preserves the natural beauty of the Red Sea’s delicate ecosystem.
Accessibility and exclusivity
Located 25 kilometers from the mainland, Shebara offers a true escape. Guests can reach the resort via a 30 to 40-minute boat ride or a 30-minute seaplane flight from the Red Sea International Airport (RSI). RSI, which began receiving international flights in April 2024, is strategically located within three hours’ flying time of 250 million people and eight hours’ flying time of 8% of the global population.
A vision for the future
Red Sea Global continues to position itself as a leader in sustainable and regenerative tourism. In addition to Shebara, its portfolio includes The Red Sea destination, which began welcoming guests in 2023, and AMAALA, slated to open in 2025. Each development underscores RSG’s mission to uplift communities, drive economic growth, and protect the environment.
